About this audiobook

A Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Amazon Charts bestseller.

In the fourth book of the multimillion-copy bestselling series, Morgan Dane’s new client has blood on her hands—and no recollection of what happened.

Haley Powell wakes up covered in blood, with no memory of the night before. When she sees a man lying in the backyard, stabbed to death, she has only one terrified thought: What have I done?

Agreeing to take the case as a favor to her PI friend Lincoln Sharp, Morgan must scale a mountain of damning circumstantial and forensic evidence to prove her client innocent. Haley couldn’t appear more guilty: her bloodstained fingerprints are on the murder weapon, and she has no alibi. But Morgan can’t shake the feeling that this shocked young woman has been framed.

Someone out there is hell-bent on sabotaging her defense, targeting Morgan, her partner, and especially Haley. Someone who will stop at nothing—and whose next move will be deadly.

Cute story. Gets pretty dark! The vibrant characters and odd backstories make it better!

The fourth Morgan Dane thriller was a fast-paced, action-packed experience. It begins with Morgan meeting with a client before his court appearance. She learns that he had a previous assault experience that he hadn't told her about. Robert McFarland demands that she get him off without jail time despite the fact that he attacked a man in a crowded club in front of numerous witnesses and security cameras. Morgan's only possibility to get him off has to do with a procedural issue. When she presents him with the prosecutor's best deal, he sucker punches her in the side of the head and is ready to kick her in the face until the prosecutor and a bunch of deputies manage to pull him off her. While Morgan is at the hospital for treatment an old friend of Sharp's drops in at his office. She is the widow of his partner who died in the line of duty twenty-five years earlier. Sharp had promised her husband to look after her and her baby Haley but their relationship wasn't good for either of them and she left the area. Now, she's come to Sharp because her daughter Haley has been accused of murder. She was found covered in blood standing over the corpse of a guy who took her home from a bar. She doesn't remember what happened. Sharp contacts Morgan and she and Lance ride to the rescue to get Haley out of jail. She had been sitting in a cell for a couple of days. Since the sheriff was convinced that Haley's case was a clear cut case of murder, he had been focusing his attention on the case of a missing woman. When Morgan arrives at the jail, she finds a young woman who is suffering from Addison's disease and who has been left without treatment. She demands that Haley be taken to the hospital. While there they run drug and rape tests but Morgan knows that too much time has passed to get confirmation that she was drugged.Even though she has a concussion, Morgan isn't going to slow down and rest when a young woman, especially one close to Sharp, is in danger. She and Lance begin trying to uncover what happened in the space of time that Haley doesn't remember that led to the death of Carter. But someone doesn't want them to investigate. Noah's brother Adam is especially concerned since he's convinced Haley killed his brother. He expresses his concern by sending threatening emails to Morgan and Haley, trespassing at Haley's house with a couple of weapon-wielding friends, and other things. As Morgan and Dane investigate, they learn that Noah Carter wasn't the saint his family would like everyone to believe he was. They also are led to investigating Noah's friends who were at the club with them and who are a suspicious bunch of characters. Even Haley's ex-boyfriend comes under suspicion because he's quite an unsavory character too.The action never stops in this story as Morgan, Lance and Sharp unravel all the twisted threads. I loved the relationship between Lance and Morgan. I liked that Sharp could get some resolution regarding his relationship with his partner's widow Eliza. I liked the introduction of a new character who intrigues Sharp. Fans of romantic suspense won't want to miss this story.

This is the fourth book in the Morgan Dane series. Like the others, I enjoyed reading this story of a young girl accused of a gruesome murder. Morgan, as a defense attorney, knows Haley is innocent, and she sets out to prove it with the help of boyfriend Lance and his PI partner. The book certainly kept me reading and turning the pages. After reading 4 of these books, the use of strong verbs has started getting on my nerves. It's just a personal thing. An example would be "her attention snapped".

I've been rating this Morgan Dane series with three out of five up until this book - What I've Done - which I'm rating four out of five. It was more suspenseful and less cutesy (in my opinion). The character development was also good. It might be that I'm getting to know them better and feel more invested in the story as a result, or that the author - Melinda Leigh - is refining her writing style, whatever the reason, this was an excellent read. You must read the preceding books in the series, though, to get the most out of this one.

I continue to love this series, and this book was no exception. Fingers crossed this isn’t the last of Morgan Dane.

At the behest of Lincoln Sharp, Morgan decides to represent a young woman accused of stabbing her lover to death. Despite an abundance of forensic evidence stacked again her client, Morgan is convinced that there is more to the case than meets the eye, and someone has deliberately framed Haley Powell for murder. The questions are who and why?

This 4th installment in the Morgan Dane series is a bit of a departure as the genre shifts away from romantic suspense and toward the classic mystery-thriller. This is not surprising as Morgan and Lance's relationship is now well-established and becomes even more solidified in this book.

The focus is almost entirely on the investigation and the obvious frame-up job. As the details are slowly revealed and the number of suspects increases, it really isn't possible for the reader to formulate any theories, and one simply has to go with the flow. This is unfortunate as my preferred plot is one in which it is possible to follow the clues and work out the explanation for myself - ah well ...

That said, the mystery itself is interesting and one cannot help but feel for Haley, who is obviously traumatized, and hope that everything will ultimately work out.

Overall, a good addition to the series and I am enjoying my ongoing buddy read in the 2-3-4 Challenge group.

In this fourth Morgan Dane romantic thriller, we once again find Morgan and her boyfriend, P.I. Lance, working a case that has a connection to someone they know. The book opens with a young woman, Haley Powell, waking up with blood on her hands and feet, and a blood trail from the bedroom she is sleeping in through the hallway and to a dead body. She remembers nothing that happened after leaving a bar with the victim. We also learn about the death of Lincoln Sharp's partner years earlier when he was a cop. He promised his dying partner that he would take care of his family. Haley, is his daughter.

Morgan was a former prosecutor but she is now on the other side of the courtroom taking on cases as a defense attorney. This book actually has her in court defending a man who has some issues with anger management, much to Morgan's detriment. Morgan is a tough as nails lead who is backed by her P.I. partners who are also very likable. She is also extremely smart, which balances the brawn from the men. The romance between Morgan and Lance has been a slow build over the previous books, kept in the background of some intense cases with plenty of action in the investigations. There’s just the right amount of questioning suspects, following clues and forensics to give it a realistic feel with some great twists and turns along the way. With every new case Morgan works with her former high school boyfriend turned P.I., Lance Kruger.

What I’ve Done by Melinda Leigh is a great addition to the romantic suspenseful Morgan Dane series. Each book in the series features a new case to solve so they could be read as standalone however, there is a lot of character development and background that carries over book to book so I would recommend reading it in order. This is a wonderful series that I have breezed through as I can't wait to see what is next for this trio. I recommend it to lovers of mystery, crime, and romantic suspense.

This was my favorite book in the series. I love Morgan, Lance and Sharp. So many horrible crimes seem to happen in their small town. I hoping their might be a love interest for Sharp soon. She's a perfect match for his love of all that is healthy.Morgan finds herself defending Haley, a young lady being accused of murder. Haley also happens to be the daughter of Sharp's partner who was killed in the line of duty. Haley woke up covered in blood and finds the guy she went home with outside---DEAD!! Haley has no memory of the previous night. Morgan, Lance and Sharp start doing what they do best and begin digging into the murder mystery. They question possible suspects and try to figure out what really happened. Someone doesn't want them to figure out the truth, which leads them to being shot at, attacked and having to survive house fires. The book is full of suspense and creepy psycho people to keep you guessing on who really committed the crime. There are many twist and turns. I wasn't sure who was going to end up being the killer, but I did get some bad vibes off of Piper. Her reaction about Haley and the knife skills she displayed with the chicken gave me the creeps. Besides a mystery to solve, there's always a bit of romance with Lance and Morgan. I see Morgan, Lance and Sharp having a long career with so many innocent people in their town constantly being arrested for horrible crimes. I definitely recommend the book. I can't wait to read the next one!!! Thanks to NetGalley, Montlake Romance and the author, Melinda Leigh, for a free electronic ARC of this novel.
