About this audiobook

Francesca Marqueto is an anthropologist based in Lima, Peru. Every two years, she travels deep into the Peruvian Amazon to visit a village that lives outside the influence of modern society. She has published numerous papers on their lifestyle and customs. But what she doesn’t know is that someone with sinister motives has been reading them very carefully.

Alfonso Calderon is a police officer in Lima. When an unidentified body washes ashore, it is his job to find and notify the family of the deceased. He initially writes it off as another drowning, but after an autopsy he is thrown into a homicide investigation deeper than he could have imagined.

When Francesca and Alfonso’s paths cross, their search for a killer takes them to a mysterious artificial island. There they find that someone has learned from Francesca’s papers and founded a community where outcasts from society must cooperate for survival. It appears that on this island former violent criminals now peacefully coexist. But nothing about the island is as it seems, including the metal skeleton that it was built on.

I liked the length of the audiobook and the characters' unique names, as well as the deliberate emphasis placed in the description of each character, and the seeming emphasis on individuality. The narrator's voice was nice, too. However, I was not really able to fully appreciate the plotline and story, but this audiobook still had other redeeming qualities that are worthy of mention!

The narrata' is a super cool accent. If there is a such thing as "The King's English" it's taken a permanent vacation.

Nothing against the narrator... I’m sure she would be a great translator... but she’s a terrible reader...

The reader's pronunciation and heavily accented English makes this book very difficult to understand; I had to concentrate to even follow it. So I gave up. I'm very confused why, with so many solid readers around, this choice was made?????

This is the worst narrator I have come across. Other reviewers mention the accent, but in my mind it is an accent when you pronounce thinks differently, but this narrator simply cannot pronounce certain words at all. Also narrating is more than saying the words out loud, intonation, changes in speed and rhythm are part of it, not just the monotonous babble in this book.

Awful narration. This person is not a good reader on top of speaking in a heavy, difficult to understand accent.

The narrator is terrible, and the book does not convey a good description of the situations. It seems rushed and written for the summer beach.

In this modern era, there are too many horror stories on television, at the movies, and in print. Killing off every protagonist, turned a potentially entertaining story into a disappointment. Literature has classically been meant to provide an escape from reality. I do not want to escape into nightmare. From a mechanical perspective, the metal skeleton island is a clever idea. Your female protags would have been better suited to finally escape, setting up a sequel that allows them to bring pain on the smug Estate owner and his Island of Doctor Moreau.

This sounds like a third grader wrote this story. No definition of story or characters.
