Lucy Maud Montgomery

Reviews for Anne of Green Gables
7 ratings1 review
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Lucy Maude Montgomery, and her most delightful creation, Anne Shirley, deserve and must be read with... joy and animation and everything that makes these books so delicious that it is impossible to ever tire of them! When I was a writer, you can look at my writings and tell exactly when I was re-reading an "Anne book". I took nothing from them in a literal sense (no cats called Gilbert, etc), but my writing was just better.
I gave an extra star because I know my voice is not great, due to health "stuff", and I respect that people try to read the books aloud. I just wish they would add a bit of life. As with the other L.M. Montgomery books here (some with seriously bizarre covers. Anne is the opposite of Emo, folks :) And I am pretty sure she never sported a full face of makeup. Yikes), my best advice is to read the books yourself. Or find a version read by someone who does this professionally. I don't want anyone to miss out on Anne because of a joyless reading. And she is a joy. Not in a false "look at me, happy all the time for no reason!" way, but in a way that we can all learn from . Anne uses her imagination, and she chooses to find the good. She also has a temper, so she's not a boring saintly child and eventually woman - she's just not a victim. She doesn't whine. I should really stop now :)2 people found this helpful
