About this audiobook

A 2022 Audie Award Finalist

Don’t miss the #1 New York Times bestselling blockbuster and Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick that’s sold 3 million copies strong—now an Apple TV+ limited series starring Jennifer Garner!

The “page-turning, exhilarating” (PopSugar) and “heartfelt thriller” (Real Simple) about a woman who thinks she’s found the love of her life—until he disappears.

Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother.

As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was. And that Bailey just may hold the key to figuring out Owen’s true identity—and why he really disappeared.

Hannah and Bailey set out to discover the truth. But as they start putting together the pieces of Owen’s past, they soon realize they’re also building a new future—one neither of them could have anticipated.

With its breakneck pacing, dizzying plot twists, and evocative family drama, The Last Thing He Told Me is a “page-turning, exhilarating, and unforgettable” (PopSugar) suspense novel.

I kept my attention all the way to end. But for me I didn't enjoy the plot. It didn't make since to me. It worth the listen. And had me guessing until the reveal, and than i was just confused how the plot made any since or why the characters acted the way they did. Anyway not a bad book but not for me, and I wouldn't recommend it to my friends. But for someone who likes polite, romantics sure.

What!? That’s it??? The end left me hanging, completely unsatisfying, and far too simplistic.

The story wasn’t that interesting to me or believable. Bailey got on my nerves the whole time.

It was okay. The mystery was interesting enough to finish. Although the repetition of repeating what Owen values felt overdone and I found myself annoyed the story kept breaking with it.

Wonderful book! The reading for me was slow so I kicked it up to 1.2x and it was even better. The ending was… everything I wanted it to be!!!

Boring. I have no idea why this is a thriller.

So complex yet simple. What would you do for the people you love? The narrator was amazing. Highly recommend.

The main character did nothing but whine while trying to make her stepdaughter like her. The stepdaughter Bailey is extremely rude and disrespectful and needed to be thrown in the river. There was nothing thrilling about this book. It just makes you never want to hear the words "protect her" ever again.

Very engaging and entertaining read. Enjoyed “meeting” the characters. The kind of book I like to read before I fall asleep.

This book kept me entertained, but I found it quite unrealistic. The ending was anticlimactic and very disappointing.

Yeesh. Really? Writing style is super repetitive where the two words of one sentence is the first two of the next. Over and over again. "She looked out the window. Out the window to the world." "He took a bite. A bite of dinner." UGHHHHHH. Plot wanted so badly to be a twisting and turning mystery but was more like one twist. Maybe two. Didn't have me shocked at all. I think the author wanted to delve into the human condition and write about unconditional love and family and loyalty, but I think severely missed the boat. The characters' actions were often portrayed as loving, selfless, brilliant...when they were actually more like codependent, unrealistic, or unhealthy.

Too many “he said,” “she said” I didn’t find it engaging or intriguing.

The story is good enough to keep you interested. The one thing I couldn’t stand was the way she wrote the word “said”... it written WAY too much.

For me, this is one of those books that are better in audio format. I liked the narrator a lot. I think she was well suited for the book and her delivery was very good.

I had, however, two major issues with the book itself:
    - the way the author kept repeating phrases and only adding 1 or 2 more words each time. Drove me nuts! I would have probably dnf-ed the book had I read it as an ebook.
    - the ending was unsatisfying. It was realistic but so sad!

I enjoyed the story, the characters and the originality of the relationships. I liked the voice of the reader except when she did the male voices. They were abnormally slow, deep and had unnatural drawls.

I couldn't finish. The narrator and the plot are meh. The teenage daughter's bad attitude and constant disrespectfulness are truly irritating. As is Hannah patiently and continually being the daughter's doormat. I kept wishing Hannah would stand up for herself and jerk a knot in that bratty kid.

Extremely underwhelmed with the story line. There was literally no action the entire book, and left with no answers.

A little weak...storyline was ok, everything was "ok". Definity surprised this was a bestseller.
