I am Ali Khaghani. Since it’s customary for a writer to expand on his roots I’ll do my best to oblige. This is a brief synopsis of my personal journey.
Born in Iran, my peculiar genesis firmly rooted in Persian culture. Heritage rich in poetry, cultivated and cultured in creativity. The compelling character of this historic nation and its diverse tenants would leave an enduring impression on my character and development. The sublime tapestry laced with renowned wordsmiths such as Rumi, Hafiz, Attar, and Khayyam. My happy childhood would be abruptly interrupted by an uprising with profound impact and implications.
Victimized by association, torn from friends, family and the only life I’d come to know. Uprooted by the 1978 revolution, the ensuing decade of bloodshed would
make neo-gypsies of my entire family. We wandered about the globe in search of a safe haven to call home. The tragic circumstance taught me the discipline to reap only rewards from consequence. The early existential drill would yield a fertile soil for seeds of perseverance and integrity. The journey proffered intimate acumens in multi-cultural values and virtues. Worldly yet perhaps prematurely, naïve by design marinated in global awareness. A volatile osmosis, my early memories; rich in abundance and vast in variety, I was fortunate. The impact of these events, and the synesthesia in every moment remain imminent in my words and poetry.
Today I no longer live to survive; I merely thrive. I’m driven to excel and determined to exceed my own expectations. In an effort to redeem the Persian masters I’ve dabbled in an alternate approach to interpretation. A small yet choice selection by Rumi, Attar and Hafiz. I’ve yet to encounter any translation which fulfilled the euphoric expectations achieved by the original expressions. They may relate the gist yet fail to conjure the passion and refrain. The cultural bias demands more than literal mastery of the language to overcome. My cultural diversity allows an edge over most bilingual literates. My only wish is to find the language suitable of such excellence, so the rest of the world may justly celebrate their majesty as those of the native tongue have for centuries..
Creativity’s my binding rite of duality, this expression; my privilege to lend a voice to all those bound in silence, and reap the rewards of unity. The arts speak to the heart and communicate the love that embodies us all. Transcendent crafts chronicle the era and usher in a new age. Poetry’s the tool by which I ordain and synthesize ordinary semantics into emotional compositions. Pneumatic visions, emotions, and observations articulated in rhythmic verse. Hence I no longer write; I merely let go. In the beloved’s hands I’m the pen, I dance the ghost as he guides the ink, together we pain murals that sing.
