I have worked primarily in radio/Internet audio since 1999, but I am turning to Smashwords to put more of my journalism into print. This way a) the work I do that gets edited out for time in audio is not lost, b) I can publish what I want without concern over other publishers' exclusivity requirements, c) I can reach a wider audience than is available through most alternative, progressive or community news websites where I am likely to be found, and d) I can make some money.
I have recently returned to KPFA-FM in Berkeley, CA, after a 3.5 year hiatus.I am still a contributor to WINGS - Women's International News Gathering Service (http://previous.ncra.ca/exchange/searchResult.cfm?StartRow=21&searchTerms=Ramares). On Radio4all.net (http://radio4all.net) you can find me under the names Broadcaster at-Large and R.I.S.E. Radio Internet Story Exchange. I occasionally write for Intrepid Report, formerly Online Journal (http://intrepidreport.com) and am not writing twice a month for The Leftist Review (http://leftistreview.com). My one book in print is a volume of poetry called "Near the Ragged Edge of Earth". I may republish it here because someone apparently pirated it and made their own e-book out of it; I don't know what has been done to it.
After my e-pamphlet Eating Poison, I will be publishing a collection of my left wing commentary. I am raising money to have the space in my life to write a trilogy on alternative economics. The website for that is http://endingthecultbook.wordpress.com/
I have done some investigative reporting for radio on the issue of forced psychiatric drugging. The issue is complex and I feel it deserves a book because there is not enough time to treat it thoroughly in radio. The economics books has taken precedence because that is what showing some support right now.
When I can write the drugging book depends on when I can finish the economics book and if I get financial support for the drugging book. We are probably looking at 4th Quarter 2014 before I get to work on that. So if you think e-books can save long-format reporting as newspapers and magazines shrink and die off, please support me and other journalists on Smashwords by buying our work. We hear a lot about novels being written as e-books and much less about non-fiction. But there is no reason why non-fiction can't be successful in this format.
I am new at this, so I encourage readers of Eating Poison to write me about they liked and didn't like about the reading experience, so that I can get a better idea of what you expect from e-books.
Smashwords' free ISBNs and free conversions into the various formats the various readers require, makes e-books and magazines viable options for the journalist. I wish everybody --this means you, Amazon -- would agree on a standard technical format.view less
