About this ebook

52 Quotes to Live By is a Self Help category book written by Zett Why. It’s a spiritual and philosophical book that discusses what really makes us happy.

Due to many objective and subjective reasons, we are often forced to go in directions which wouldn't be our choice under other conditions. We usually follow the goals imposed by society, friends, or just egoism created by ourselves. The more intellectual we become, the less often we feel satisfaction in our consciousness. We postpone moments of happiness to particular points in time, and believe that we will be happy when we achieve them. But right after having achieved them, we set new goals, and go on to the next goal. This race has no end...

Oriental wisdom says - “if you don't let the bee go out of the hive, she will not be able to bring back nectar”. Letting go of your knowledge is an art and the high road to wisdom. Wisdom accommodates opposites. The intellect is not capable of this. You have to let go of Rightness, too. Then you won't be hurt by knowing. Only this will help you become reborn, and only this will let you find joy in simple things. Only this way leads to happiness...

Pleasure in consciousness is all that we need. It's a guiding star, showing us whether we are on the right Way, or not. Alienation from pleasure is called Suffering. Pleasure seeking (desire) is called Hope. The appearance of a pleasurable moment - Happiness. Permanence in being in a condition of pleasure is called Love. A condition of pleasure which involves all your entity is called Nirvana. People who are able to stay in a condition of overpowering pleasure in consciousness all the time, call it the Supreme Truth. Here is all that is Human...

In his book, Zett Why encourages learning to differentiate real joy from egoism. He also offers 52 Ways about how to achieve a feeling of satisfaction in consciousness. In describing the ways, Zett analyzes aspects of daily life and introduces practical recommendations about how to find our real I, and joy in our daily life.

Zett Why

Zett Why Zett Why is a life traveler surprised at the miracle of the moment. Born in Europe in 1965, he also lives there. Since his early days, Zett has felt a strong attraction to the East, and has been especially worried about a person’s position in the world. With such a goal in mind, he looked for answers in various religions, and finally turned to the way of Zen Buddhism. Zett says that “The spread of wisdom is much more important than the spreader.” For this reason, he doesn't like talking about the facts of his life and personality. However, in his book, he describes his personal experiences in detail as they have appeared going through the Way. Philosophy “The guiding law is Satisfaction in consciousness. It's the constant and main engine ruling all our life processes. Whatever our situation in society or daily routine may be, it should be evaluated through this feeling at first. When we face a positive life situation, we meet life like a flower in spring meets the eye of the sun. Endless satisfaction appears in our consciousness... This feeling is an indicator, determining many of our choices. Satisfaction in consciousness verifies that a person’s external ego and their internal ego accept a situation, and there is no conflict between their outside and inside world.” “Pleasure in consciousness is all that we need. 52 Quotes to live by - Zett Why

    Introduction

    A problem arises

All science refers to logic and the mind. The domination of intellect is reflected in our educational system, too. This dominant structure can destroy any trace of personality. By killing personal expression in such a way, teachers can turn kids into robots. Parents also play an active role in all of this. Adults dictate: You must go to school... you must listen to your teachers... if it's written in a book, it's absolutely true... No one has ever died from learning... I have achieved all this only because of science... In school we are taught grammar, mathematics, and many other disciplines. It can all seem very nice and valuable from a distance. But in fact and in practice, we only use a tiny part of our entire mind and experience. As we learn to use more of it, we can become human beings with a wider knowledge of other galaxies than ourselves...

Only after we have grown up do we begin to realize that life consists not only of physics or mathematics, but also of Nature’s Rules, which have a huge effect on our daily routine. We learn the operating principles of these rules by intuition. Same as at school, same as in life – some go further, some do not. But imagine what life would be like, if higher mathematics could be exchanged for a greater understanding of Nature’s Rules. I am not talking about physics or chemistry – I instead have in mind a more complete human being with all his mental facilities, physical condition, intercommunication, and knowledge of all the rules which have an impact on this. Enough for a search of the galaxy– it's time to find Yourself!

    The guiding law of life!

I always have been unsatisfied with the truths taught at school. None of the teachers could give me answers to difficult questions like - What is the meaning of life?, Who am I?, etc. Later on, I started to gain a degree from the university of life. All my life I have lived and worked among people, and I have not been contented with the superficial answers I have heard – I have always looked for a more primary source, and tried to understand the real cause of the connection between things and relationships.

My studies still continue. When looking back at my life, a feeling that they will never end comes over me. Truths that were realized just yesterday are being denied today and realized anew. Thoughts and ideas which were only beautiful words not long ago, are my personal qualities today. Despite the things I have found on my Way, each day I feel like a beginner. Such an attitude helps me to keep learning. I have met many teachers in my life. Some of them were pseudo-teachers, some – real pearls of wisdom, who left a deep impression on me. In observing them, their teaching systems, and in analyzing results, I came to one conclusion – despite our nationality, race or religion, all of us are under a single guiding law.

This guiding law can be called Satisfaction in our consciousness. It's the constant and main engine ruling all our life processes. Whatever our situation in society or daily routine may be, it should be evaluated through this feeling at first. When we face a positive life situation, we meet life like a flower in spring meets the eye of the sun. An endless feeling of satisfaction appears in our consciousness... This feeling is an indicator, determining many of our choices.

Satisfaction in consciousness verifies that a person’s external ego and their internal ego accept a situation, and there is no conflict between their outside and inside world. When a positive life situation occurs along the Way, and a person’s consciousness becomes filled with a feeling of satisfaction, all things become automatic. All moral and religious teachings, such as be good and love your neighbor, become meaningless. A person who experiences a smile from destiny, or faces a positive life situation, doesn't need to be told that he should respect elder people and women, take compassion on unfortunates or other things like that. These things just seem normal to him, and the most important point is that he realizes it as a natural thing, not truths that have been told to him by someone else.

    About the book

Due to many objective and subjective reasons, we are often forced to go in directions which wouldn't be our choice under other conditions. We usually follow the goals imposed by society, friends, or just egoism created by ourselves. The more intellectual we become, the less often we feel satisfaction in our consciousness. We postpone moments of happiness to particular points in time, and believe that we will be happy when we achieve them. But right after having achieved them, we set new goals, and go on to the next goal. This race has no end.

How can you stop a race which has no meaning? How is it possible to find joy in simple things? How can you learn not to hurt yourself in your communication with others? What do Christianity, Buddhism, and other movements really say? Here in this book you will find answers to these and many other questions.

This book is written in a Japanese style. Each part starts by a Quote called a Way. All the ways put together would fit on only two pages, but civilization uses many words to explain everything nowadays, and the whole meaning wouldn't be clear to a westerner if suggested in only a few brief statements. Due to this reason, a detailed explanation detailing what the author has in mind has been added to each Way.

Reading the book can be done in two ways. The first is traditional – reading it from the beginning till the end. But I strongly recommend devoting yourself to the moment. Think about a problem that you are worried about, and choose any part of the book by chance – let the right Way offer an answer to you. 52 Ways, guiding you to Satisfaction in consciousness, are waiting. Many call it Happiness...

    Before starting

When dealing with satisfaction in consciousness, you can't cheat yourself. The feeling of pleasure can't be created – it comes when a person’s internal situation (body and mind), is in harmony with their external (social position and circumstances) situation. The book will tell you how to match these, and what the main factors are which can cause conflicts and problems. I have just mentioned the word happiness, but the things I write about can't be labeled in such a manner. The definition of Happiness can be easily realized by each one of you. It can even be felt physically. It is Satisfaction in consciousness.

Knowing that not knowing is good equals halfway to happiness...

    Zett Why

    Information paradox

Nowadays, every person can be called a walking library. While Christian tradition says that God's ways are higher, we can make an observation – intellectual ways are limitless. Our developing civilization and the growing amount of information available show that intellect is in a golden age. But it hasn't brought happiness to people, even with its technological progress. It's related to all the aspects of our lives, especially for families.

Check the divorce statistics. The family institution is losing its meaning. The number of divorces is growing. In the past, a bride was chosen by feelings or arranged for by parents in some cultures. Now we usually look at money, an attractive body and other characteristics that are important to us, but the main selection is made by the Intellect. When observing the communication between couples, we can easily tell which relationships have grown on love, and which – on intellect. In listening to their life stories, we can notice that success comes more often to couples living in love. Couples staying together based on money or another creation of the intellect are less successful and have the highest number of divorces. Apart from this, we could talk about the decreasing family institution for a very long time, but that’s not the goal of this book.

In keeping with the topic on intellect and its impact on our lives, we should return back to the Introduction – the more unhappy a person is, the higher their intellect. Take a look around and observe your surroundings. How many love songs have been written? Unfortunately, almost all of them state an accepted fact – star-crossed love. Remember your own love. Could you have said at that time - I'm in love!? Probably not, because if you could have, your feelings would have been coming from your external perceptions and the satisfaction of egoism. That’s why a lover is silent and a saint is silent – they own a quality, but don't realize it. It's intellect that realizes things and gives them values. After all, what can you say when you are full of emotion in the Here and Now, and there's no need for any talk?

Intellect chains everything up. It generates emotions such as Egotism, Hatred and so on. Even love is mixed together with the emotions created by the intellect. You can often notice that that the one who confesses love to you is expecting the same answer, because their intellect insists on it, wanting guarantees. Now, is such a love what the scriptures have in mind? Absolutely not. When egotistic love doesn't get a response, the next step is hatred.

    Intellectual extremism

Observe how your intellect works. You’ll probably see that when planning future situations, the worst option usually comes to mind. Imagine a situation where a close friend doesn't call on time, and you can't get in touch with him. The first thought will be about an accident or other negative scenario. This is just one more intellectual extremism, which is closely related to the emotion of fear. Fear comes naturally from the intellectual fear of losing, because the intellect only feels comfortable with stable and controlled processes.

Look at the mass media and news sources. In almost all cases, they exhibit this intellectual extremism. A lot of the news is negative, some of it neutral, and just one or two items may be positive. As I have mentioned – the intellect needs stability, or it can lose its meaning and switch off. Analyze this logic. If I do a favor for you, I expect you to do the same for me. Now let's imagine a world where such a logical expectation doesn't work. Everyone does favors for each other, and no one expects anything back. It would be unstable system for the intellect, because there would only be the Reason, and the Consequence would be gone. By the way, wise people obviously follow this logic. You will find out more about this in other parts of the book.

As I said in the Introduction – the intellect is one of the things our minds use for perception of the world around us, and should be equal to others. It does no harm only when it is not afraid to deny itself. In nature, everything runs in cycles. Day comes after night and so on. A person’s life should run in cycles also. Sick of intellectual knowledge, a person should put aside such baggage, and just dive into a simple daily routine. As a result, the intellect will not only be unharmed, but will also become richer. Knowledge will gain a new quality. It's like a spiral – the information is similar at the same point, but its quality is totally different. Remember that your intellect can't provide you with happiness and love. But it can show you the way by realizing itself and discovering your weak points. After showing you the way, it will have to deny itself and abandon its dictatorship.

Oriental wisdom says - if you don't let the bee go out of the hive, she will not be able to bring back nectar.
