Introduction
If you are a young artist or a young band playing contemporary music, be it pop, indie, rock etc and you want to take your music from the bedroom to the gig and show the world what you can do, then this book will save you money, time, effort, or maybe all three. Also if you are a parent, brother, sister or friend of a young band or artist who is going to help them along the way, this book will give you an essential insight into those first key steps, particularly if you have little or no knowledge at the moment about where to start with any of this.
This book is written from my experience in working for five years with and around young bands and artists, and my own frustration that there is a significant information gap in this really important part of any young person’s development in this area. Combine this experience with almost 30 years of working in a people facing industry as a manager and a genuine desire to help you along the way.
There are no guarantees of reaching stardom; that relies on too many other factors (including, maybe, the X Factor!).
What I will do for you is to ensure that you have the information and guidance available in order to avoid as many of the potential pitfalls as possible, and that you are in a position to make good and efficient decisions about all of those start up issues for young musicians which need to be considered.
There are good books to read after this series which look in more detail at all of the complex areas of the music industry and on to the next level, some of which provide very interesting reading and others which assume
