Ancient Lights is a visitor’s guide to the old stained glass windows of Norfolk, the English county with the most medieval churches. The series begins with the Glaven Valley in North Norfolk. Subsequent books will journey around the whole county, looking at the windows, their stories, the stories of those they portray, and when known, the stories of those who put them there.

Marco Books are written and published by Mark Igoe. Mark has written widely on travel, history and sport over thirty years in a half dozen different countries in Europe and Africa. He has published a dozen books, often co-authored by his wife Hazel, including a best selling guide to Zimbabwe and a popular guide to buying French property, published by Cadogan and branded by the Sunday Times. He has three grown up children and now lives in Norfolk, England with his wife and two bicycles, all better looking than he is.

Norfolk has the greatest number of medieval parish churches in England. The author is a travel writer, so this is not a work for the artist, historian or craftsman; it is a guide for the tourist and general reader to one aspect of the marvels to be found in this English county’s churches. Because the Smashwords format only allows for a limited file size and because the number of photos is large, this will be a multi volume publication, with each book published separately. The principal sources used for their compilation have been The Buildings of England, Norfolk Books 1 & 2, Pevsner & Wilson, Stained Glass Tours Around Norfolk Churches, David King and Simon Knott’s famous Norfolk Church site. All the photographs are by the author and have not been colour enhanced.
