About this ebook

A workbook of short stories with "lessons learned" to be used as a tool to inspire you to discover and write your own life's stories.

The following reviews from people of different faiths show that these stories can be used as a tool for you also, to leave a legacy for your family or those whom you cherish.

Kathleen Harris says:
“I chuckled, I giggled, and I alternately nodded and shook my head knowingly. Ann's workbook is an enjoyable journey read as a story as well as a wonderful springboard to launch you into writing your own meaningful life lessons. Through much laughter and a few tears, Ann takes you through personal, yet universal emotions and situations to help remind you of a moment when...“

Peggy Kneidel says:
“Your book is charming, insightful, thoughtful, hysterically funny, and can make you tear up. I have really been enjoying reading it. I am stunned by your words. I have strong religious beliefs and moral values, but I am undereducated in scripture. I love your use of scripture and the weaving of our Lord and His teachings and your ability to recognize them in your life through your missives, without being overbearing. Of course I don't really know you too well, and had no idea what a full life you have lead!! Congratulations, I believe it is a winner.”

Misty Caples says:
“I found Ann's book very uplifting and inspiring. I enjoyed the fact that she allowed the reader to be part of her book by being able to add our own story. You were right there with her while she was going through the experience. It really made me reflect on my own life, and the stories that I have to share that have influenced my life. Ann is a wonderful story teller, and she inspires and uplifts those around her. I look forward to reading more from her.”

Katie Esser says:
"Ann's book is so helpful in encouraging you to be "mindful" in your own life. I find myself so often pushing forward as best I can in the blur of day-to-day, but Ann has reminded me not only to hold on to my daily experiences so that I may build a treasure of memories, but also to reflect on those experiences so that I may glean important lessons from even the most ordinary of events. Thank you, Ann!"

(From a letter received.)  "Recently, our study group [Moorish Science Temple—50 male members] was very blessed to be able to view a book, The Journey:  Discovering Your Life’s Stories," by Ann Betts.  I am a Spiritual Advisor for this group, and I would like to be able to teach from this book.  From the contents of the book, I am sure that there are things within that can change the focus of our lives.  We truly are trying to better our lives and be positively productive, and this book can help."

As you read through this workbook, please have a place to take notes as thoughts from your own life come to your mind. You may think that you will remember them, but it’s a lot easier to jot down a note and then you can go back and fill in the details as time permits.

    How to Use this Workbook

The Journey - Volume 1 workbook contains 27 lessons learned. These are in the form of stories, anecdotes, quips, and words to songs. They range from the lighthearted to the deeply thoughtful and do not have to be read in any particular order as each stands alone. Each story used is purposely short to serve as an example. Your own stories are welcome to be as lengthy and detail-filled as it takes to portray your thoughts. Also, included is an inspirational quotation. The format is definitely, and the moral of the story is…

Here are three suggested ways to utilize this workbook:

1: Several of the lessons function as inspirational thoughts or readings. Use them as is, or write your own excellent inspirational thought(s).

2: Strengthen friendships or family relationships by scheduling an activity to discuss a story and write one of your own.

3: Start keeping a journal if you have not already begun doing so. Use the story given as a launching point if you need a place to start. As opposed to a diary that lists daily events, a journal reflects your thoughts and feelings about those events. There are no rules to journal keeping except those you set for yourself. The important thing is to just start doing it.

Once you are past this introduction, you will find that this workbook contains six labeled sections. The first section contains a place for you to list personal information (like your resume, your interests, and your genealogy). The following five sections open up to contain a lesson learned and a place for you to also write. You may certainly also add your own categories, of vocations or hobbies or specifically like Pets I have Known, or Vehicles I have Owned or Repaired.

As you would expect, my stories reflect my life’s experiences. The fact that I am a Christian translates into my viewing life through this spiritual perspective. I am hopeful that your writing will reflect your values and perspective and be a positive experience for you and for those with who you share this.
