Eclectic: Beyond the Skin
()
About this ebook
Queen of Spades has returned in full force as she gives you a VIP Pass into her world, inviting a thorough excavation into the layers. Eclectic: Beyond the Skin is composed of these three primary layers that are described (as well as Deep Tissue):
Do you just want to touch the surface? Then, take delight in Epidermis. Epidermis is a collection of senryu-esque poems that will leave a lengthy impact.
Do you want to go beyond or just accustomed to “Vintage”? Then, take a dive into Dermis, where Queen exhibits what her old and new followers have classified as her vintage style. From attracting a new love to arousing outside awareness, Queen of Spades provides experiences that go beyond vintage and extend to the universal.
Do you want to indulge in further depth? Then, savor Hypodermis. Hypodermis is a selection of ten proses/monologues that will bring you through a myriad of emotions, ranging from outrage and disappointment to laughter and triumph.
For those of you who have this edition, you are in for a special treat. Eclectic: Beyond the Skin features a layer entitled Deep Tissue. Deep Tissue contains the short story, “Misfortune”, my first journey into short story writing in well over a decade. “Misfortune” will also be featured in Queen of Spades’ short story collection, Continuous Drips, which will be released late next year.
Queen of Spades
The best way to describe Queen of Spades is an Antiquated Hybrid— a contemporary author whose writings have a down-to-earth resonance to anyone who reads them. Since the age of eleven, Queen of Spades’ flowed with the fire of ideas indicative of rhythm inundated with stanzas. She made her writing debut as a presenter and poet in the anthology Soulful Branches: Words and Sounds. Her other poetry works include: Reflections of Soul, the Eclectic collection (Skin Edition and Beyond the Skin), the Spaded Truths collection (Themes and Proclamations and Life-O-Suction) and Private Pain: Amidst These Ashes. Queen of Spades also collaborates in subjects she is passionate about. She provided works in the April 2014 poetry anthology Words of Fire and Ice by Durham Editing and E-books. In addition, she partnered with fellow author MJ Holman on two works addressing the stigma of mental illness: The Sea of Conscience and Waves to Light. Storytelling took spotlight alongside poetry in Queen’s literary evolution. She has written three independent short stories: “Taint on Religion”, “Mr. Bradley’s Garden”, and “When Summer Lingers”. Furthermore, she has participated in a number of short story compilations, such as Continuous Drips, Concordant Vibrancy I, II, and III, and the Divergent Ink series (Crackles of the Heart). Some tout Queen of Spades is a Poet of the People. Others classify her as a Life Writer. The primary things that remains constant is her dedication to contemporary creativity while remaining true to herself. The kingdoms I used to know were destroyed.
One was due to corroded ego and absolute dictatorship. The other was because of opposing visions and passion's evaporation.
I would not be deterred.
I searched the mountains and the trenches but none would do. None were like the havens of before, and getting high off the smoke of memories no longer provided satisfaction.
In response, I decided to create my own kingdom and blossom beyond my old haunts.
It wasn't long before my own style took shape.
Slowly, but surely, it was deemed vintage.
When Hard to Get Goes Wrong
It felt like a typical day.
Man with the deepest chestnut eyes
Just happened to stroll my way.
He stopped in front of the cold grey steps,
Inquired, "This where you stay?"
Sorry,
I fired back, You've got the wrong house.
He quickly shuffled away.
Fast forward
To a cool, yet starry night.
Never too late for a block party!
Montel croons, Let's get it on tonight.
Laughing and dancing all taking place,
Chestnut Eyes arrives at the door:
Hey, don't I know you from somewhere?
Nah, I've never seen you before.
Zooming in
To a warm, sunny afternoon.
Flowers are in full bloom.
My mind tingling with inspiration,
So I stroll out of my cocoon.
As I'm writing down a line,
Here comes Mr. Chestnut Eyes.
But instead of even approaching me,
He simply says, Good-bye.
Scandal
Is it a greater crime
To be an advocate: nurturer
Of Love's vibrancy,
Behaving as if Its' shine
Doesn't apply to me?
Or appearing strong,
Platinum encased stone,
When my passion burns
For my stone's pulverization
Transforming me into Love's ashes?
Every day, this clashing.
Every day, this tragedy!
Loving (You and Me)
Loving You is easy,
But loving Me is so damn hard!
Where I see a grey hair,
You see a highlight.
Where I perceive unevenness,
You deem it, Just right.
Where I notice tarnish,
You say, "It just needs shine
To get back to the radiance
It had in Its' prime."
Where I find a wrinkle,
You say, "That little line?
I can hardly see that.
I think it's all in your mind!"
Where a little extra cushion
Has formed over time,
You claim, "Thickness is bringing sexy back
And you look super fine!"
Yes, loving You is easy
Because You are the closest epitome
Of what unconditional love should be.
So thank You
For loving Me so easy
As I learn not to make loving Me
So damn hard.
Surgery
My body is obese with the weight of Life,
And I've tried the best I can
To shed the extra pounds.
Thinking happy thoughts
And joyful memories
Has long since stopped
Working for me.
I'm at the corner
Of Downward Spiral and Depression,
Wondering will you be the gastric bypass
That turns my life around?
Michael's Song
You're the love of my life
But what makes me die inside:
You're around me each and every day;
Don't even know that I'm alive.
Find myself trapped all in my head
Each time you flash a smile.
All these fantasies of you and me
Continue to drive me completely wild.
You're the love of my life,
But each day feels like an end:
The times I feigned to be satisfied
With the demoralizing title of friend.
You've thrown me in your comfort zone.
I have to pretend I'm unimpressed,
Trying to will my erection to subside
While seeing you fully undressed.
You're the love of my life,
But I'm tired of going insane:
Giving yourself to other people
When you should be calling my name.
Yes, I'm ready to live again;
I have to put it all on the line,
Even if this ultimate sacrifice
Means you'll end up saying goodbye.
Baby, I'm sorry...
I can't keep living this lie.
Precipice
You're the song that I can't stop singing.
You're the favorite toy that I can't let go.
You're the surprise that I can't stop bringing.
This may sound corny, but I want you to know:
If I was without you, what would be the meaning?
If I was without you, ice would rise in my soul.
You might as well slice me open; don't stop my bleeding.
Take my heart: I wouldn't need it, just render me cold!
You're the prayer that I can't stop saying.
You're the heat which fuels my desire.
You're that dessert that I won't stop craving.
This may seem crazy, but you are my fire.
If I couldn't kiss you, why even have this body?
If I couldn't touch you, numb my fingertips.
Foreclose: destroy me in front of everybody.
Bleach me until the darkness no longer exists.
Servant
Drops drench my skin
I throw down my crown
Cause I don't wanna reign tonight.
The search party is out.
Chaos rules the streets!
