About this ebook
All alone on a big campus is no place for a young injured girl. That is exactly the position Sarah finds herself in when she badly sprains her ankle weeks into her first semester. Instead of being all alone and scared she finds her new boyfriend more than helpful as she copes with the severe sprain that may keep her on crutches for weeks. Sarah begins to fall for him as he sweetly takes care of her.

Having grown up in Pennsylvania Sarah looked forward to going to college in Florida. She looked forward to warm winters and trips to the beach. She was also looking forward to a measure of independence. She wasn’t completely sure what drove her to go all the way to Florida all alone to college. She had been trying to convince her friend Shannon to go with her, but she ended up going to Penn State instead.
The Florida State campus was an exciting place in the fall of 1981. The football team had been one point away from a national championship last year and the expectations for another good season were big. Sarah wasn’t necessarily a football fan but none the less, going to school were such exciting things were happening was part of what drew Sarah down here.
Sarah’s mom and her mom’s boyfriend had driven Sarah down here back in early August. She got assigned to a dorm room. She wasn’t crazy about her dorm mates but was doing her best to get along. Sarah wasn’t completely sure what it was she was looking for in her college experience but for the time being the dorm seemed like a simple enough way to do it.
When class started Sarah made friends with another girl that lived in her dorm house that shared two classes with her. Her name was Erin and they started to spend some time together as Erin was in a similar circumstance. Sarah began to feel like she was figuring some things out after a few weeks. The first two weeks she always felt like she was lost. Once she understood her way around the campus she became more comfortable in her new surroundings.
There was a guy in two of Sarah’s classes that she began to chat with after a couple weeks. His name was Jim. He was from a wealthy family in South Florida. They had lunch together one day and on another day he took her for ice cream after class and then walked her to her dorm.
Sarah had a boyfriend in high school back in Pennsylvania but he ended up cheating on her and it left her with a bad taste in her mouth from the experience. While she was willing to be in a relationship again she wanted to approach such things cautiously.
Jim invited Sarah to a movie on Friday night. She said yes and was torn between feelings of not wanting to get distracted with guys so soon in her tenure here and being really anxious to spend more time with him. He was cute and rich, and at least on the surface seemed very nice.
He picked Sarah up at her dorm house in his car. It was a 1967 Mustang convertible. Most freshmen didn’t have a car so this was a bit of a luxury. He took Sarah to a multiplex theater and they watched An American Werewolf in London. During the scary parts of the movie she found herself clinging to his arm. After the movie they stopped at McDonalds for a bite before he took Sarah back to her dorm house. They shared a passionate kiss goodnight.
Over the weekend Sarah told Erin about their date on Friday night. She couldn’t wait to see Jim on Monday to see what was going to come next.
After class on Monday Jim asked Sarah to lunch. As they sat in the cafeteria Jim seemed poised to ask Sarah something. Would you like to go to the game with me on Saturday night?
Jim asked Sarah. ‘I would love to, I have been looking forward to going to my first game Sarah replied.
Great, you will love it, my family has had season tickets for years, even back when they were awful Jim continued.
Now that they have such a good team it is a lot more fun to go he said with a smile.
Thank you, I am really going to enjoy myself" Sarah said so happy that Jim had asked her out again. As he laid it out it all sounded like a lot of fun. Jim explained that his roommate had a date to go to the game also so it would be a double date of sorts. Sarah accepted and looked forward to the game.
After class on Wednesday Jim gave Sarah a ride back to her dorm room as it was raining and would have been quite a long walk. As he dropped her off again they sat and talked in his car for a long time waiting for the rain to let up. They discussed their taste in music and all sorts of things. Jim told Sarah about him and Matt his roommate living in a house his dad had bought on the outskirts of campus. He and Matt had
