About this ebook
Without giving, life comes to a standstill. The devil is happy to see the Church shy away from giving. The world expends energy in attacking believers on the issue of giving and receiving because it knows that WHEN WE STOP GIVING WE STOP LIVING.
This book is a simple approach to the subject of giving and receiving. It is not intended to answer those who have a mountain of arguments against it but to stir up faith in the practitioners of giving and receiving. It is spiritually sound to expect to receive from God and others when we give in obedience to the Word of God.

INTRODUCTION
Giving and receiving is the supernatural mechanism of exchange through which God blesses people with the things they need. This means of supplying needs gives us more than the reward work gives. Working rewards us but giving brings us something extra. The practice of giving and receiving is an expression of the grace of God. The world mocks believers for believing that God gives gifts to them through the principle of giving and receiving. This negative attitude makes the Church shy away from the timeless secret of giving and receiving. It is not spiritual for the Church to be silent on giving and receiving.
Giving is the act of being motivated by love to release earthly goods and spiritual things to God as a gesture of devotion, for the fulfilment of His will on earth and to others in order to empower them.
Giving to God is an act of devotion that proves our love for Him.
Giving to God also involves giving to those He calls to enable them execute His agenda on earth.
We give to other people because we love them.
We give to them to enable them fulfil their purpose and also solve problems.
Without giving, life comes to a standstill. The devil is happy to see the Church shy away from giving. The world expends energy in attacking believers on the issue of giving and receiving because it knows that WHEN WE STOP GIVING WE STOP LIVING.
It is easy to talk about money when the emphasis is on gratifying our personal desires but not on giving and receiving. Everybody understands us when we use money according to worldly principles. The world applauds us when we:
- Invest our money in business ventures with the aim of making profit.
- Work hard to earn money. Unbelievers don’t believe that God gives money to people who sow seeds into other people’s lives.
- Engage in rigorous budgeting to conserve money.
- Save money to the detriment of our families and the work of the ministry.
Worldly ways of getting and using money appeal to the senses and the flesh but they are not comprehensive enough for the financial freedom of believers. They are directed at satisfying the individual and not God or another person. Personal investment, working, budgeting and saving can make you selfish and over- emphasising them makes the Church backslide.
Backsliding occurs when believers lose their love for God, thereby hardening their hearts from giving to Him and His people. The Church should not preoccupy itself with fleshly methods of making money.
The state of the Church today is not new. In the days of the apostle Paul, the churches lost their willingness and cheerfulness in giving to him and the work of the ministry. No church communicated with him concerning giving and receiving except the Philippians, who constantly sent gifts to Paul even when others failed to do so.
15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
Philippians 4:15
The Philippians did not just practise giving
but giving and receiving
. It was a process of fellowshipping
between them and the apostle Paul and not one sided. They gave to Paul and in turn, received his ministry and the supply of their need from God.
Paul said they communicated
with him concerning giving and receiving. The Greek word for communicate
is koinōneō, which means to communicate, fellowship, partake and distribute. We must break the habit of constantly thinking, giving
, and rather think, giving and receiving
. Those
