    beautiful book, I really enjoyed reading it. I always tend to have a problem when it comes to reading a non-fiction book but I am glad I could finish this in one go.

LIFE IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION

IN THE SPRING of 1985, I began to sense subtle changes in the way I perceived life. They weren’t dramatic shifts, but small variations in how I viewed myself and my world.

I had always imagined life as a series of singular goals or destinations, which were created and then worked towards – much like the stops a commuter train makes along its route. Each stop different and unique, but eventually left behind as the train moved on.

The concept of life being a journey, and not a destination, seemed foreign to me. I asked myself, How can I take a journey without knowing where I’m going? and, If I don’t know where I’m going, how will I know when I’ve arrived?

Struggling with questions such as these, on a warm August evening in 1985 – I began my journal.

At first, the journal served the purpose of recording the daily events of my life – work, family, friends, and recreation. Then an occasional story from my childhood would creep in and I would reflect on vacation trips to my grandparents and adventures in school. But over time the focus changed and I wrote more and more about me in the – NOW!

The present became the point from which the past was relived and the future was examined. I began to write with more emotion, experiencing times of joy and sorrow. I had touched a part of me I’d never
