About this ebook

For years he was silent and unmoving, encased in a four-inch block of clear crystal, paying no attention to the events that unfolded in front of his eyes, or the people who took part in those events. That changed this afternoon, when Maggie Madison walked into the store. For the first time in eons, he sent a hesitant thought to a mortal, “Take me,” he whispered.

E. Don Harpe

Award winning author E. DON HARPE has had a varied career, from military service in the 60’s to years spent as a published songwriter in Nashville. During this time he won the coveted Silver Pen Award from the Nashville Banner newspaper. Since retiring from public work in 2004, Harpe has concentrated on writing novels, and continuing to move forward with his writing. He also has nearly 40 short stories available which can be found on Smashwords as well as other sites that feature ebooks. His book of memoirs, THE LAST OF THE SOUTH TOWN RINKY DINKS, published in September of 2008, was an instant success with friends and readers alike. The stories are touching, down to earth tales of small town America, and will bring tears and laughter to all who can remember when the world was a kinder, simpler place. It’s one of those books that you won’t be able to put down, and one that you will re-read many times over the years. Now living in Georgia, Harpe devotes his time to Helen, his wife of nearly 50 years, to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and to his writing. “I’m pretty satisfied in my own skin right now,” Harpe says, “and I just want to continue to write things that will entertain and hold the readers interest.”

    ANGEL IN AMBER

Mount Olympus, Home of the Gods: Before the birth of modern civilization.

With a clap of thunder and a bolt of lightning, Zeus came to the mortal woman Semele. Although his arrival was noisy, he came as an invisible spirit, more like a thief in the night than the God that he was. Semele, though pleased to be the lover of a God, felt some desire to see the face of the man who ravished her, to look upon the royal countenance of he who would make her body his own.

Whether it be Zeus or another of the Gods, it made little difference to the beautiful young Semele; she was pleased to have been noticed by any God, and eagerly waited whatever his desire might be.

Oh Great One, she cried, do with me as you will. Use my body for your pleasure, I am yours, for now and for eternity.

Zeus smiled, and although Semele didn’t see it, it was a very pretty smile. She did however, feel his passion as he ravaged her, and when he was done and gone she knew in an instant she would bear his child.

Hera, the one true wife of Zeus, would have none of it.

Learning that Semele was the latest lover of her unfaithful husband, Hera went to the girl, and told her if she ever wanted to be able to tell her child of his glorious father, she must first look upon her lovers face as a true wife would.

Semele agreed, not knowing that for
