About this ebook
Hercules is a feisty young terrier devoted to his Mistress and afraid of nothing. His phenomenal nose-computer means he is employed by both the U.K. and U.S. governments to sniff out anything nasty. A loyal second-in-command of an extraordinary pack, his language and morals are derived from watching too many late-night films on T.V. especially his heroes such as the mighty John Wayne, Robin Hood and the handsome Count of Monte Christo. Book 1 shows him defending his lovely mistress, terrorising cat and double glazing salesmen, rescuing an idiot from the ice (with pack leader, the handsome Bruce), defeating an inept pair of burglars (with the terrifying R.D.) and facing the terrors of The Vet. Don't worry; as a dog of few words and swift action (via John Wayne) Hercules is triumphant and ready to meet the new challenges of Book 2. See the world through the eys of a very special dog. Feelgood guaranteed!

I stood on a small cliff in Tenerife and looked down on a small beach. An elderly lady shook out a rug and began sunbathing. With her was one of those frenetic, mindless, neurotic poodles permanently living on the edge of a nervous breakdown.
That’s not much protection,
I thought. "What you need, lady, is one of those feisty little terriers that are scared of nothing.

Chapter 1: Hercules on the Beach
Hercules the dog had achieved total oneness with Universe in a way that any Buddhist monk would have envied. He lay stretched out on the edge of the warm sand just a little out of the reach of the inquisitive tiny waves. He was at perfect peace, and in complete harmony with the whole of creation. To say he was relaxed would be a serious misreading of the situation. He lay as if there was not one sinew to hold him together; his eyes were closed and not a hair stirred. He was in fact totally shattered.
Well, it had been a hard morning starting when the lovely Mistress had scooped him out of the ole’ basket and dumped him in the back of the car. He liked the car; it presented a wonderful opportunity to stick his nose out of the window and soak up the sights and smells at a rate considerably faster than that possible on four, albeit first class, little legs. Every whiff was caught, examined and catalogued by the nose computer. There were several seriously interesting dogs out there, y’ know.
They had driven along the road that ran across the top of the park. This is where mighty Bruce, the leader, had his house, master, and fab kennel. This is where the little pack usually hung out; well, they would have to do without him today and appreciate him all more when he got back.
They had arrived at the beach car park where the back door had been opened and the dog had jumped down to the warm tarmac.
