Introduction
Our body depends on nutrients from the foods we eat to replenish itself and to provide the energy for our daily activities as well as to carry out tissue and cell repair and defence.
Today’s environment is full of chemicals and pollutants from industrialization and our technology dependent way of life. These chemical and pollutants are harmful to our bodies that therefore need more resources to keep us healthy than in previous generations where there was not as much pollution.
Sadly however, our soils are polluted and depleted and consequently the foods we have are not as healthy as those in previous years. Added to this pollution are the chemicals from pesticides and herbicides we use to ensure a more bountiful harvest. Further we have genetically modified and engineered the seeds that we no longer really know what we are eating.
Many of today’s sicknesses and diseases are a direct result of all the above making it very important to do the best we can to ensure we eat healthily. Many of the healthy food we have today are however not tasty and our taste buds that have been used to the taste of the unhealthy foods that have been produced to lure us reject the more healthy food to our detriment.
The recipes in this book are aimed at reversing that by providing a way to prepare foods that are delicious and make you ask for more without sacrificing taste. If you are suffering any kind of health condition then these recipes will truly assist in the healing process.
Okay enough said. Now go ahead cook, eat and enjoy. I encourage you to make the early morning drink a daily event. If you do, you will begin to notice a difference in your health.
Note for All
Remember diet must be complemented by a good exercise routine including walking and other outdoor exercises. Please read the terminology section before commencing with the recipes and ensure you understand the terms used in the recipes. I encourage you to make drinking a cup of the early morning drinking broth a daily routine. You can replace any of the ingredients in this book with an alternative suggested by your doctor or nutritionist.
Also remember that when using olive oil, only light or pure olive oil should be used in cooking. Extra virgin olive oil should only added to food after cooking as it burns and splits if heated. Coconut Oil, Palm Oil and Cold Pressed Canola Oil are some of the other healthy oils. Cook at low to medium heat. Avoid burning oil as that could split the oil.
Terminology
Broth and Stock mean the same thing and both refer to the water left from cooking vegetables or meat/fish products.
