About this ebook

The opportunity was just too damn delicious for Ginger Peet to pass up. The purse full of money she finds—$50,000 to be exact—could give her and her teen sister the new start they need. So she grabs the cash, her gothy sibling, and their life-sized statue of Dolly Parton, and blows outta Nashville in a cloud of dust. Chicago, here we come...

Turns out, Chicago has some pretty hot cops. Hot, intense, naughty-lookin' cops like Derek Tyler, who looks like he could eat a girl up and leave her begging for more. And more. Tempting as he is, getting involved with the sexy homicide lieutenant next door poses a teensy problem for a gal who's on the lam. But one thing is certain—Derek's onto her, and he wants more than just a taste.

And as far as he's concerned, possession is nine-tenths of the law.

When a stash of money falls into her lap, Ginger Peet doesn't think twice. She packs up her sister and relocates from Tennessee to Chicago. But temptation lurks in the big city in the form of her next-door neighbor, hunky police lieutenant Derek Tyler, who is determined to discover everything there is to know about Ginger - the good, the bad and the naughty.

Light and fun with likeable characters, a steamy romance and a relatively angst free plot.

Ginger and Derek are smokin' hot together although his overbearing alpha-male attitude, dominance and possessiveness may irritate some readers.

The secret keeping trope, which is usually a huge turn-off, actually works well here perhaps because Derek knows that something is up with Ginger from the start.

One minor issue is Ginger's TSTL moment toward the end, which is an obvious plot device to begin wrapping up the storyline. Nevertheless, it isn't too bad given that this is Bailey's debut novel.

In sum, a quick and spicy read and I look forward to reading more from this author.

A fun, sexy read--wow, Derek's a dirty talker, and I liked it. Very much! :) I will definitely be reading future books by Tessa Bailey. My one complaint is that I wish Derek had a bigger presence in the book. We found out some things about who Ginger is, where she came from, and even about who Willa is, but barely found out anything about Derek. I wanted to know why I should love him, besides his dirty mouth and, ahem, bedroom talent. Otherwise, a quick read, and one that I am glad I bought!Review property of TheBookQueen (TBQ's Book Palace)

Finally, a non boring book! I liked this book, it didn’t seem too long, too boring, to forced. I did start the series out of order and although it says they can be enjoyed that way I would recommend following the order.

I can tell most folks don’t agree with me on this book but what the heck here goes my review. This book is not romantic – raunchy maybe – but definitely not romantic. I was not thrilled with the language in this book. There is a lot cussing and not just when Derek is using dirty talk to get Ginger in bed.

I feel mislead by the title in I was expecting a CR that resulted in of course the need for the guy to save the day. That is not what I got. Most of what Derek does that I think the author finds romantic is being obsessive with some borderline stalking. His jealously is so annoying that I just didn’t like him.

Ginger is portrayed as this strong independent female, your basic good girl from the wrong side of the tracks who will do anything to keep her sister safe. That is not what you get. She doesn’t take crap off anyone which I like unless its Derek and he basically walks over her because she finds him too sexy to resist.

So for me it was just an average book that was saved by the relationship between Ginger and Willa.

The narrator, Alice Chapman did a good job with the voices and with the Tennessee accents but a lot of the characters from Chicago still had a little bit of a southern twang to them.

This is one of those a lot of people like it, but I can't.

I loved the older sister theme. I am an older sister and the relationship between Ginger and Willa is well written and believable. Considering that both had to grow up fast, Willa's absence of usual teenage temper tantrums was believable too.

Ginger isn't running from the law as the description says. She stole some money her mother was supposed to bring to some criminal, so she moved with her sister to Chicago. They move into detective Derek's building.
Most of the story is will they or will they not regarding Ginger and Derek. It is predictable. I couldn't bring myself to care that much.

If you have issues with lust at first sight and possessive - occasionally bordering on insane - men, don't read this story. I don't mind the first. When in a right mood for that type of story, it can be fun. The second I didn't like that much. Most of the time, Derek's possessiveness is not an issue, it is even hot. A few times though, it didn't make me feel good. It was almost creepy.

I don't like a virgin heroine theme. It works well in historical romance, but not so much in contemporary. And this one goes over the top. There was absolutely no reason for the heroine to be one. She doesn't want to be like her mother. It seems to me that she was made different from her mother by being a virgin. And that pisses me off. She was taking care of her younger sister for so long, she worked to get her through school. A child herself, she was her sister's guardian angel working hard and she has to be a virgin to be different from her mother?! I don't think so. She would have been different even without that.

There is a bit of humour in this story too. That and the character of Willa saved this story for me. If there hadn't been that TSTL moment near the end, then maybe I would have liked this more.

Very, very sexy and fast read. Full of romance, angst and some action in the end. I love how the characters each have their own problems, but they still managed to be funny, full of spice and able to deliver a delightful read.
