About this ebook
Magic was the province of the wealthy and well connected, or in the case of necromancy, the insane. He was not sufficiently rich or high born to train as an artiphicer or unifier. A house slave from a Dark City estate could not hope to gather the resources to become any of these, let alone access the ley-nexus locations needed to gather arcane energy. His would have to be a less orthodox route. His access to arcane knowledge, fuelled by his tremendous desire to escape would lead Kasus down a shadowed path few would dare consider.

I live in sunny Perth, Western Australia. I work in security and I.T. My interests include military history, physics, strategy gaming, martial arts, sketching, engineering, comedy, game theory and etymology. I like to read about unusual settings and bizarre worlds that are a little outside the regular comfort zone. I like to contemplate the impossible and wrap my head around alien places and unorthodox inhabitants. I primarily write sci-fi or sword and sorcery. I am currently writing about the world of Archea, a moonless planet dominated by reptiles, but host to numerous stranded visiting species, including humans. Because it isn't tilted on its axis, Archea experiences only summer and winter and in both hemispheres simultaneously. It is a large tropical and very volcanic planet. The people of Archea struggle for space, as well as resources both arcane and mundane.

Self-Inflicted Abomination
Kasus stretched his sore back a little. He didn’t want the battered muscles to lock up, but was wary of stretching so far that the cuts from the lash would open up. There was no way to get comfortable so soon after a flogging, but the irritation drove him to try.
Sero have you been listening?
Sero grunted.
Will you come with me?
Huh? Where are you going?
Kasus frowned, but was not surprised.
You shouldn’t let your mind wander like that, it’s not really strong enough to be out on its own,
said Kasus bitterly.
A cool wind puffed across the courtyard, briefly cooling the burning from their welt covered backs.
I was thinking about where I’d like to stuff Corporal Arsen’s whip,
replied Sero with a vicious grin.
Wherever you’ve chosen will be too full of sailor’s cocks to accommodate it,
replied Kasus.
Sero snorted.
Anyway it’s Lord Jakot who ordered the flogging, or his wife,
added Kasus.
Lady Jakot had lost some of her jewels on a three-day spree of intoxicated lechery and decided that the slaves had pilfered them. As a deterrent against future thieving, they flogged every slave on the estate.
Although, if Lady Jakot gave the order, I think she would have made an exception for you, she has her eye on you, you’ll be her new favourite once she’s tired of Arko,
said Kasus with a cheeky grin.
Drit! Don’t even joke about it, have you seen his expression when he stumbles along behind her? I’m not sure if he wants to throw up or cry,
replied Sero looking pained.
Kasus chuckled.
I like the way his hair is always ruffled and messed up at the back, do you think that’s from her firm grip? Or does she lay him down, and sit on his face?
Sero grimaced.
