I never set out to create the book Change Your Money Mindset.

I set out with a heart for those of us--every one of us at some point in our lives--who find ourselves in a place of disappointment, embarrassment, fear, struggle and inauthenticity. A place where our perceptions of our financial situation have nothing to do with the reality we actually live in, not that we could tell the difference.

I set out to bring something to the masses that would address the countless sets of eyes that looked at me full of tears as people choked out their financial tragedies. Looking at the floor in embarrassment, they aired every single piece of dirty financial laundry they had, feeling like an utter failure in the process.

It’s not fact. It’s not your truth. And yet I understand that when we are told something enough it becomes truth to us. And in the chaos of the storm we can’t visualize the calmness that a new day brings.

I set out to create something that would help adult children understand where their parents were coming from when they refused to spend a dime even though they worked their entire lives to create the wealth they now had.

I set out to virtually sit across the table from a fearful soul that feels hopeless, look deep into their eyes and say, It’s going to be OK, and here’s why.

I started with an online course that would walk people through this process.

Our nation is obsessed with finances. We are a nation of deficit and our emotions and our actions are a result of that one relentless, bullying concept.

Something amazing has happened, and it’s important to allow ourselves to understand it.

Our nation and most of the western culture underwent a huge transformation in the 21st century. It is a transformation that has forever changed who we are as a people and how we relate to our world around us.

We went from a nation of citizens, a nation made up of people who had responsibilities and rights, to a nation of consumers. As consumers we are viewed and portrayed as a people whose only job is to consume. We are studied as consumers. We are addressed as consumers.
