Description
How many excuses are there for not doing homework? Let us count the ways: Giant lizards invaded the neighborhood. Elves hid all the pencils. And then there was that problem with carnivorous plants.... The excuses go on and on, each more absurd than the next and escalating to hilarious heights. Featuring detail-rich illustrations by Benjamin Chaud, this book is guaranteed to amuse kids and their parents, not to mention anyone who has experienced a slacker student moment—and isn't that everyone?

A boy offers increasingly imaginative and absurd excuses for not doing his homework.

I had my son, a senior in high school, read this for me first. He said, in effect, 'cute but only meh, probably better for younger kids.'
So then I read it, and, at first, was thinking that it would be a good writing prompt: teacher reads this, then kids come up with their own ideas. But then the excuses kept coming, and I was thinking it'd be better to reverse the order, because Chaud really does use up so many of the ideas the kids would like suggest.
Then I decided that the classroom should simply own a copy - that the book should be on the resource shelf for SSR, sans comment from teacher. Let the kids read it on their own time. See if any of them start doodling in their notebook comics inspired by this.
Just a little too weird and superficial for me to rate as anything but it was ok>""
