NIV, Believe - Randy Frazee
Foreword
An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
Luke 2:9 – 11
Let me ask you a question. Are you a part of the all
in the words all the people
? Then this promise was meant for you. When Jesus entered our world wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger, it was God the Father’s intent for this to bring you joy.
Maybe this Christmas season joy has passed you over. It doesn’t have to be this way. God’s promise is still alive, and his offer of joy is still available to you.
This little book aims to help. It is a collection of Scripture stories from Genesis to Revelation built around three key themes of the Christian life — Beliefs, Practices and Virtues. All three hold the secret to God’s offer of joy.
BELIEFS — PERSONAL GOD
Experiencing joy begins by believing God is involved in and cares about your daily life. Do you believe this?
PRACTICES — PRAYER
For a belief to have a full impact on us, we can’t just believe it in our heads; we must also believe it in our hearts. This spiritual practice will help the belief above take the 12-inch journey from the head to the heart.
VIRTUES — JOY
Over time the fruit of joy will appear in your life. God’s joy enables you to experience inner contentment and purpose amid your circumstances — both good and bad. How about that?
Bask in the gift of God’s Word this Christmas, and before long you will be singing, Joy to the world, the Lord has come.

Personal God
KEY IDEA
I believe God is involved in and cares about my daily life.
KEY VERSE
I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1 – 2
The God of the Bible is the only true God — Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is the one all-powerful, all-knowing eternal God. But is he good? Is he involved in his creation? Does he love us? Does he have a plan for us? Is he interceding and intervening to move the events of our life and world toward his intended purpose? Consider the following stories and decide for yourself.
GOD IS GOOD
Abraham and Sarah — the great patriarch and matriarch of the Israelite people — were first named Abram and Sarai. God had promised Abraham that he would be the father of a great nation, but how can you father a nation when you have no children?
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar; so she said to Abram, The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.
Abram agreed to what Sarai said. So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. He slept with Hagar, and she conceived.
When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. Then Sarai said to Abram, You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my slave in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me.
Your slave is in your hands,
Abram said. Do with her whatever you think best.
Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her.
The angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?
I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,
she answered.
Then the angel of the LORD told her, Go back to your mistress and submit to her.
The angel added, I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.
The angel of the LORD also said to her:
"You are now pregnant
and you will give birth to a son.
You shall name him Ishmael,
for the LORD has heard of your misery.
He will be a wild donkey of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
