Introduction
It’s a miracle that I’m even alive. As a kid who was abandoned by a drug-addicted mother, placed in foster care, placed in special education, suffered repeated physical and sexual abuse, was a drug dealer and drug user, it is amazing to me that I’ve lived to tell the story. Who would imagine after all of the trials and tribulations, the ups, downs, ins, outs, twists and turns my life has taken—who would imagine that I would now be the one to inspire thousands of teachers, students labeled at-risk
and their caregivers around the country and even internationally? To look at me now, you would never imagine that my past was so horrific.
