Hi! I’m Muffin, but most people call me Muffy. I’m a puffin. I’m not a penguin. I’m from Alaska. Penguins don’t live in Alaska, puffins do. But I don’t live in Alaska anymore; I live in the South, which to an Alaskan only means I live south of the Canadian border!

    ~

I had the opportunity to visit Alaska again recently and I would like to share that story with you…our tale…of a whale…of a whale tail…Actually, many tails, but I’m getting ahead of myself. Would you like to join me on the adventure? I’m sure we’ll all have a great time!

    ~

Aunt Cheryl, Aunt Cindy, and Aunt Cathy have been planning this trip for months. I’ve been excited about it since they started talking about it last fall…Alaska again!

    ~

Aunt Cathy has definitely not been as excited as I’ve been about this trip – but I think it’s just because she keeps going on other trips! She didn’t take me on those other trips, so I’ve been saving my excitement for this one.

    ~

I could have gone with her and Jo and Jimmy to Virginia, or with Princess to New York City, but chose not to go on those earlier trips, preferring to wait for the Alaska trip. I think I made the better choice, but that’s just my not so humble opinion.

    ~

When I get home, I want to compare notes with Horsey on the types of boats he got to ride in Panama and with Alligator Al on the ones he rode on his trip to Florida. Mine will be the biggest – and probably the coolest!

Please join us for an Alaskan Whale Tale.

    The Day Before

    Thursday, May 27, 2010

The house is crazy today. Almost everyone in the place is packing to go somewhere – Uncle Dan and Eli are leaving for a Boy Scout canoe trip in Arkansas on Saturday. Our good friends, Alison and Michael, head back to Arizona on Saturday, and the girls leave to visit Karisa in North Carolina tomorrow. Poor Manny, he’ll be all by himself for a couple of days. I don’t know why, but he seems to smile every time someone mentions that to him.

    ~

I think I’ll call Jo and Jimmy and have them come over and keep Manny company while we’re all gone. Yes, I’ll do that. They can reminisce about the fun they all had on the Virginia trip last month.

    ~

But anyway, with all these trips – there are suitcases everywhere. Everyone seems to be packing something. No, wait, not everyone. Aunt Cathy isn’t packing yet. She’s done lots of laundry and pulled out a backpack and a suitcase, but so far she’s making no effort to pack. Maybe I need to gently remind her that we leave tomorrow. I know her short term memory isn’t the best, but surely she hasn’t forgotten our trip.

    ~

Me: Aunt Cathy, we’re leaving tomorrow. Aren’t you going to pack?

Aunt Cathy: No, I’m going to pack in the morning. I have to do one more load of laundry when we wake up, and then I’ll pack. It won’t take me that long.

Me (to myself): She does remember we’re going to be gone for nine days, and that we’re going on a cruise…doesn’t she? And that suitcase she has out sure looks small. She’s packing everything in there?

Aunt Cathy keeps making notes about what she has to do in the morning, and in between she’s trying to finish a book she wants to upload before we leave for our trip.

Aunt Cathy, da Vinci can wait till we get back. He won’t mind, honestly.

    ~

She’s not listening to me. She keeps mumbling something about trying to get this book ready to print for a month now, and not wanting
