Real-life heroism…
Written like a gripping thriller novel, Bill Browder’s account of exposing deep corruption in Russia and his unfailing will to fight against Vladimir Putin’s regime proves that sometimes fact is far stranger than fiction.

Based on a true story, this political thriller tells the story of an American financier in the Wild East of Russia, the brutal murder of his principled young tax attorney, and his dangerous personal mission to expose the Kremlin’s insidious corruption.

Bill Browder, both author and main character, tells how his journey began on the South Side of Chicago before he ended up in Stanford Business School. He entered the dog-eat-dog world of hedge fund investing in the 1990s, and this investing eventually took him to Moscow.

Browder made his fortune as the head of a large investment fund in Russia after the Soviet Union’s collapse, but when he exposed the corrupt oligarchs who were robbing the companies that he was investing in, Putin had him expelled from Russia in 2005.

Fast forward to 2007, when a group of Russian law enforcement officers raided Browder’s offices in Moscow, stealing hundreds of millions of taxes that his fund had already paid to the Russian government, and kicked off the investigation that fuels the rest of Browder’s story.

A captivating glimpse into the darkness of politics, murder, and one man’s struggle to expose it all.
