    Paul Revere lived in a time when America was not yet a country. It was a colony of England. The people were British subjects and lived under British laws. British soldiers enforced the laws in Boston and other colonial cities.

    Early Life

    Paul Revere was christened on January 1, 1735, in Boston, in the American colony of Massachusetts. He was probably born on that day. There were no accurate birth records kept, but the Church kept christening records.

    His parents were Apollos Rivoire and Deborah Hichborn (also spelt Hitchbourn).

    Apollos was a French immigrant. He left his family and came to America when he was thirteen. He changed his name to Paul Revere.

    Apollos came from a family of craftsmen and gained an apprenticeship with a goldsmith. Goldsmiths didn’t only work with gold. They used all sorts of precious metals, including silver. They
