About this ebook

Elliot and Vivian race to fulfill their wonderous apprenticeship to Professor van Muren, and take the space-time machine, METIS, to a new continent in order to aid Martha Coston. Despite the few troubles this new apprenticeship causes at home, it still offers the twins an incredible new insight into the new science and technology developing in the world all around them.

Prologue ~ Explanation of What Follows

Hello. My name is Vivian St. Clair. I have a twin brother named Elliot. As this story begins, we are fifteen.

If you have read the Folio, the First, then you may wish to skip ahead to Chapter 1, since the rest of this prologue will be very familiar to you.

This story starts in 1844, in our flat in London, England at 13 Ash Lane. But you will learn more about that as you continue to read.

Much has happened and much has changed since I first wrote my journals so many years ago. Times are very different now. I have since gone back and re-read my journals, and put each one in terms of a folio, to make them better understood, and to fill in a few blanks from my memory. What follows here is a folio based on my original journal, which is slightly less understandable.

I have put down these incredible events as they have happened, and without embellishment. The only ways in which I have altered them from the original journals is for the sake of clarity.
