    Introduction

    After years of brewing my own beer, I decided to share my own experience and knowledge with others who have a desire to brew beer.  This book takes you step-by-step through the stages of acquiring the proper tools and equipment, sanitation, ingredients, styles of beer, processing and fermenting, and bottling and kegging the beer.

    It is sometimes difficult to explain by written word the various steps and nuances of brewing beer.  Therefore, I have supplemented the written text with good quality videos that visually demonstrate each of the major aspects of home brewing beer.  Once you read this book and watch the videos, you’ll know far more about home brewing than the average person, and you’ll be more than ready to begin making your own beer.

    Chapter 1: The Amazing History of Beer

    Mankind has held a fixation for beer for a very long time. In fact, the origins of brewing and the consumption of beer date back to the initial transition from nomadic hunter-gatherers to the development of a sedentary farming culture. Farming and the cultivation of staple crops such as wheat and barley led primitive societies to discover a beer-type product that would lead to one of the most important finds in all of human history. The exact circumstances of how these early people discovered beer is a little unclear; one theory suggests that the fermentation was an accident when saturated grain came into contact with wild yeast. Regardless of the exact origins of production, archeological evidence suggests that consumption of beer was prevalent among the first ancient civilizations including the Babylonians, Egyptians, and Mesopotamians - even dating back prior to the invention of the wheel.

    Fun Fact:  Historians believe that the Babylonians knew how to brew over 20 different types of beer.
