About this ebook

Shattered Glass takes place in Israel at a time of great violence between Israelis and Palestinians.

Eli, in despair over the murder of his daughter Tamar by terrorists, tries to end his life. His plan is foiled when he is found wandering in the desert by patrolling soldiers. They take him to a hospital, where he begins treatment with Chief Psychologist Dr. Jonathan Danzig.

The encounter between these two men – each middle-aged, each a father and husband and both at the height of their careers – is at the nub of this story. Dr. Danzig, wishing to help his suicidal patient, puts forward reason after reason to continue living. Eli rejects them all. Slowly the scales turn, and the psychologist become morose and hopeless.

The families of both men are profoundly affected. Eli’s wife and his adolescent son each set off on self-destructive courses. Dr. Danzig’s wife embarks on a campaign of social protest, and the life of their little son is endangered.  These are six people who are breaking apart like shattered glass. As despair threatens them all, a shocking event occurs and forces them all to return to their lives and move on.

The story takes place on a backdrop of conflict between two nations, taking the reader behind the headlines to real people trying to lead good and meaningful lives in a highly complex and charged situation.
