I'm scared, daddy,
little Timmy said when his father tucked him into bed. I think there's someone under my bed.
John smiled and sat down on the bed next to his boy. You know that's not true, right?
I know,
Timmy said. I wish I could be a braver boy.
But you are brave,
his father encouraged and ruffled his hand through little Timmy's hair. You're the bravest kid I know.
Thanks, daddy.
Now you get a good night's rest, okay?
Little Timmy nodded, but John could see from his wide eyes, that his boy was frightened about something.
Was it those kids who came trick or treating earlier tonight that scared you so? Those with the terrifying outfits?
I don't think so,
said little Timmy. They were scary and all, but I knew them from school, so I wasn't afraid.
That's good, Timmy,
John said. You know that they're just normal kids like you wearing scary masks, right? There aren't any real ghosts and goblins.
Little Timmy's eyes grew wide and he pulled the blanked up to his face. Then what's that under my bed?
he asked.
John frowned. There's nothing under your bed, Timmy,
he said.
