    Preface

This is another heartwarming love story, which is the sixth book in The Christian Fiction Library series. And as can be expected in a work of fiction, the characters and events portrayed are fictitious. Any similarities to real persons, living or dead, are purely coincidental and was not the intent of the author. However, in having said that, it should also be mentioned that many of the things and places mentioned in the story are real.

Trusting all will enjoy reading the book as much as I really enjoyed writing it!

    CHAPTER ONE

/ Living life the only way one knows how, which is for the here and now

By the estimation of many, Tim made a good start in life. After graduating from Cornell with an undergraduate degree in Finance and an MBA in Business, he is now in his second year as an investment banker with Stanley and Associates, an investment banking firm in New York. He is twenty-eight, single, and unattached. Tim has dated a number of girls in high school and co-habited with a woman during most of his university years. Marriage and children was somewhere at the back of his mind as something he would like to do one day, but it was not his number one priority in life. His primary goal was to be a millionaire by the time he was thirty and to have his own investment banking firm by the time he was forty. And he did not have a religious bone in his body, viewing religion as a crutch only meant for children and old people.

After the accumulation of money, Tim’s second passion in life was baseball. He had been a New York Yankees fan for as far back as he could remember. Even today, his Manhattan apartment is decorated with a lot of full size pictures of his favorite players, plus various paraphernalia strewn about here and there. Before his father took an early retirement, and moved to San Diego with his mother, the two of them could be found at Yankee Stadium every Saturday that the Yankees were playing during baseball season. His father had bought season tickets for many years, always in the same area, about five rows up from third base. Tim’s mother had never been a baseball fan. This was now a cherished practice that Tim recently took up with his best friend, Jerry, who was also single and unattached. He was a university buddy and had just joined the same firm at Tim’s insistence, also as an investment banker. One of Tim’s dreams was that they could possibly be partners in their own firm one day.

Tim was an only child, his parents having both married fairly late in life, with a large family never having been on their radar. His father had never told him, but the primary reason Tim was born was to have a son to carry on the family name. If it had been a girl instead of a boy, then his father might have consented to a second try. Making money and living the good life was what had consumed his parents, an outlook that Tim had breathed in while living at home and had made his own by the time he graduated from Cornell. The family roots sprang up in the Boston area, where Tim’s grandfather had first settled with his wife and two teenage daughters, after coming over on an ocean liner from London, England. He had been an investment banker and had made his fortune by the time he was forty, a feat that his father had also repeated as an investment banker and which was also the primary goal toward which Tim was now hell-bent on achieving.

Just because man in his unbelief thinks God does not exist, does not mean God does not exist! He is always at work behind the scenes, as The Maestro behind every event, which man in his pride thinks is but a random occurrence!

    CHAPTER TWO

/ One never knows what a new day may bring!

It was a beautiful Saturday in May, and as one could have predicted in knowing Tim, he was now with Jerry at Yankee Stadium, five rows up from third base. What made Tim happy about the game at this point is that they were now at the bottom of the eighth, with the Yankees up 5 to 4 over his most hated team, which was the Boston Red Sox It had been a surprise to all who knew him as he was growing up that he cheered for the Yankees while hating the Red Sox, even though Boston was where he was from. So it did not surprise anyone when he later chose Cornell, whose school of finance is located in Manhattan. To get to a baseball game at Yankee stadium, Tim was now less than eight miles away, almost walking distance!

And now as they sit watching this particular game this day, quite unexpectedly - as players do not have a habit of hitting balls near their area of the seating - a ball goes off the end of the bat of one of the left-handed batters and very quickly heads for Tim’s face. Even in being six foot two and a hundred and eighty pounds, Tim was surprised at how fast he was up on his feet and ducked partly sideways in falling backwards into the lap of the fans behind him. When Tim got himself up, he was not immediately aware that when he ducked and fell backwards his full weight was against a woman, whose head also went sideways as she sat in her seat and hit the top of the curved wooden seat next to her on her right. The impact to her head immediately caused her to lose consciousness. Tim had seated himself again when he heard a shriek form Jenny’s friend, who upon realizing that her friend was out cold, gave such a yell that stadium attendants immediately rushed to the area.

The only good part about this unfortunate episode was that an ambulance is always at every game, and so in not being able to revive this woman Jenny, the attendants had called for the ambulance paramedics, who were now attending to her. Within five minutes, they had the woman on a stretcher and were on their way out, when Tim instinctively got up from his seat and followed the stretcher, just behind Jenny’s friend. When Jerry saw Tim leaving, he also quickly followed, since he had come with Tim, wondering what was going on here. When they reached the ambulance, Tim asked the ambulance driver which hospital they were taking her to, at the same time that Jenny’s girlfriend was asking the same question. Then as the ambulance started leaving, Tim introduced himself to Jenny’s girlfriend, whose name was Sandra, and asked her if she would like to go with them to the hospital. Since both women had come by public transportation, she quickly agreed and got in the back seat while Jerry joined Tim in the front.

On the way, Tim explained to Jerry and Sandra that since it was
