About this ebook
What if Cinderella had been sent to kill the Prince?
Kayden never thought of herself as the Belle of the ball, but she finds herself in the royal palace, surrounded by society darlings - and the only thing she has in common with them is that they're all vying for the Prince. They're after his crown. She's after his head.
Her mission was simple — get close to the Prince, and kill him. . .
Kayden entered the palace under a lie, one designed to get her close to the Prince. On the outside, she may look like a princess but beneath the mask, a killer lays in wait — for the perfect moment.
Dvarius was not ready to take the crown, nor was he ready for a wife . . .
But due to his father's unexpected death and an archaic law — he must find a bride before he is allowed to take his rightful place on the throne.
And the one woman he wants — just might be the one who is there to kill him…

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Warning. Potential spoilers herein.
First, things that could be improved.
Firstly, the flow of the story was disjointed, with no explanations (or reasons obvious to me) as to why such jumps are included. One example would be the jump from the final ball to the scene in the prince's bedroom, to the prince going to Kayden's room. There is no logical flow to that part of the story.
In this point also, a few continuity errors with how long Kayden had been giving riding lessons and how long since she had returned to the castle.
The prince's "I will leave it up to god" attitude is random and out of place. It read to me more like it was added to fill space than as a necessary part of the story. Unlike in Peter V Brett's Demon Cycle where the religions provide a structure and reasoning to the characters' decisions and the functioning of the world.
Now for what was good.
The world painted was very interesting. The idea of a future so removed from what we know. The author manages to take a potential future world wingdomith ships and planes and cars and still give the impression of a fairy tale kingdom with a beautiful castle (if a little gauche with the gold inlay and so on).
The conflicted assassin was also quite interesting. Borrowing elements from Throne of Glass perhaps, but definitely spinning the author's own unique take on the character.
The story, although disjointed does leave the reader (this reader at least) wanting to know what happens next.
I can't say this is a book that everyone MUST read. But it would be fair to say that this is a book I would recommend to someone with a couple of hours to kill.
