Chapter One
A skyscraper stood above a very busy city; a city that never sleeps. Night fell, and the city came alive with the lights and sounds of progress. A man from the topmost office floor stared down at the sight of human progress and scoffed. Are we not all creatures of the Earth? he mused to himself. Anyone has the right to power. If they carry in themselves the passion and the sight of a better future, do they not owe themselves a chance?
His ponderings were interrupted when the doors to his office hissed open. Two men walked in; men he had been expecting to arrive. He walked towards his luxuriously crafted desk and sat on his executive chair.
One of the two men, a towering man with a quaint but somehow menacing smile, rolled his wide shoulders. He looked at his smaller, slimmer companion and chuckled. I still think your form is weak,
he said.
The small man gave him a sideways look, I’ll prove to you that it’s not about form. It’s all about skill. Why bother spending so much energy into crushing something with your bare hands, if a snap of one’s finger could do the same?
It looks better,
the bigger man reasoned, and they both chuckled.
The man behind the desk cleared his throat, calling the attention of the two. I believe you know why I have summoned you here,
he said in a quiet but firm tone.
The two men approached him and stood straight in front of the desk. The smaller one nodded and said, Of course. We have made the necessary arrangements.
The man behind the desk took a careful observation of the large man. You don’t look confident,
he commented.
The large man shifted, unaware of how he was presenting himself. This form, I am not used to it.
This surprised his partner. And you tell me I’m weak,
he chuckled. We will have our chance to prove ourselves, won’t we?
he said to the man behind the desk.
That, you do. The time to reclaim our positions in this world has finally arrived, and we will not fail again.
