Colin Hann and Pedro Páramo are friends and partners in the LingoLibros adventure. LingoLibros is a young and developing company. Our aim is to produce quality bilingual books with an easy to follow parallel text, at an affordable price. We believe that they will be of particular benefit to parents with bilingual children who hope to develop their child's understanding of their native tongues. Our books are, so far, short stories with amusing illustrations suitable for reading aloud to young children in a single language or in a combination of two languages. Older children can enjoy reading these stories by themselves to learn and practice their second language. Students with a basic or intermediate knowledge of a foreign language will find these books very helpful in developing their vocabulary and understanding of the second language. We hope you benefit from and enjoy reading these bilingual tales.

Life of Basil — A vida do Manjericão

The first thing in his life that Basil remembered was cold air. A little girl put Basil's pot down on the front door step.

Next to the front door he saw a big flowerpot. It was bright blue and on it was painted a picture of an orange cat.

What a scary animal! thought Basil.

This is your new home little basil plant, said the girl.

She gave Basil some water. Then she took a wooden lollypop stick out of her pocket and loosened the soil.

    Help! thought Basil. What's happening?

The soil below Basil was moving. Then something warm squashed his top leaves.

    Help! Help! shouted Basil loudly.

The little girl heard nothing. Suddenly Basil was lifted out of his pot and lowered, root first, into a new hole.

Socorro!

She pushed new soil round Basil's roots and gave him some more water. Then she went inside and closed the front door behind her.

Basil was cold. He bent over feeling scared and alone.

Hey! Seedling! shouted two voices. What's your name?

Basil looked up and saw two plants with bright blue and yellow flowers.

    O Manjericão tinha frio. Inclinou-se, sentindo-se assustado e sozinho.

Ei! Plantinha! gritaram duas vozes.

    Who are you? asked
