The objective of this manual is to allow the reader to be able to use the RPD weapon system competently. The manual will give the reader background/specifications of the weapon and instruct on its operation, disassembly and assembly, proper firing procedure, and malfunction/misfire procedures. Operator-level maintenance will also be detailed to allow the reader to understand fully and become competent in the use and maintenance of the RPD Machine Gun.
Description
The PПД, Pучной Пулемёт Дегтярёва, in Russian and RPD, Ruchnoy Pulemyot Degtyaryova, in English: meaning hand-held machine gun of Degtyaryov. The RPD is a 7.62mm light machine gun developed in the Soviet Union by Vasily Degtyaryov and the first light machine gun (LMG) to use an intermediate 7.62x39mm M43 cartridge. It is also sometimes called an RPD-44. It was created as a replacement for the DP machine gun chambered for the 7.62x54mmR round. It is a precursor of most squad automatic weapons and was issued to all infantry sections in the Soviet army up until 1961. It was replaced by the RPK, but many are still in Russian
