About this ebook

This is a small book that contains a series of short stories and verses that explore a range of themes, including loss, grief, loneliness and discrimination. It was collected while the author was working with young people who were experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties. The aim of these was to initiate discussion and also to encourage these young people to use writing as a way to release some of the problems they were carrying.
Having said this they are also a very interesting read and can assist the reader to understand the thoughts and problems that many young people face on a day to day basis.

    Lady

Everything was fresh. The morning sun lit up the dew drenched flowers like sparkling jewels. Its warmth caused a light mist to rise off the damp grass. Landing on a rose, hunting silently for breakfast, lady noticed that instead of aphids on the back of the leaves there were bundles of small, almost transparent bubbles.

Carefully and cautiously she moved closer and examined them. She had never seen anything like them before, yet she felt happy about them being there. A small black dot was caught in the centre of each bubble. She knew they offered no threat and a strange sense of anticipation filled her.

Each day Lady returned to the leaf and watched these strange new additions to her garden. Each day the black dot grew and became more distinct in shape and form.

On her eighth visit Lady was surprised to find that instead of a mass of bubbles, she was surrounded by a carpet of crawling, chewing, chomping caterpillars. Her garden was being eaten away in front of her eyes, as she watched.

Seeing little point in trying to evict her numerous visitors, she landed on one of the few empty spaces left.

Hello, she said in a soft, delicate voice, "My name's Lady. Who are you?'
