My Story
I was not born deaf. I am what you would call a late-deafened adult. In August of 2000, I was eleven days from my 32nd birthday; it would be another typical day in my household. Husband going to work, school with the kids, dinner, some TV, kids to bed, bed myself, then do it all over again tomorrow. What I did not know is that these activities would take on a completely new light after this particular morning. Just by pure instinct, I knew my husband was not in bed. I knew he would be getting ready for work and although it took me a moment to realize it, I was not hearing him. I really believed I just was not hearing him because he was being quiet. I kept thinking repeatedly that if I could just stop doing whatever it was that I was doing wrong that I would be better.
With one phone call, we were off to the doctor. My emotions were everywhere. I could not focus and I was scared as hell. When we arrived, they brought me straight back into a room. Nurses came in and very shortly after, the doctor. It was extremely hard. I did not know what anyone was saying and I was crying. The first thing
