About this ebook

Bera doesn't ask for much in life. She's a solitary, humble troll, tending her island pumpkin patch in cheerful isolation. She isn't looking for any trouble.

But when trouble comes to find her, it comes in spades. A human baby has arrived in the realm of the trolls, and nobody knows where it came from, but Bera seems to be the only person who doesn't want it dead. There's nothing to it but to return the adorable little thing to its parents.

Like it or not, Bera's gone and found herself a quest.

From noted picture book illustrator and graphic novelist (Maddy Kettle) Eric Orchard comes Bera the One-Headed Troll, a delightful new fantasy adventure with all the sweetness, spookiness, and satisfaction of your favorite childhood bedtime story.

Wonderful graphic novel about Bera a one headed troll, because there are many characters in this book that have more than one head.Bera is a pumpkin farmer and happy to be living on her island without anyone but her friend Winslowe an owl. That is until a human baby washed upon the shore. You can tell Bera can not leave it alone, and that trend continues throughout the story, she will help those who are in need. She would like to return the baby to its human village but is in doubt if she can do it herself. She seeks the help of giants who she knows from books and legends. her adventure begins.Fantastical monotone illustrations with humorous text make this a good read for those interested in troll stories.

Very cute! I really enjoyed this children's fantasy. A pumpkin gardening troll leaves her tiny island home to save a human baby from a witch who wants to put it in a recipe. Along the way, Bera, the troll, meets all kinds of creatures, good and bad, as she explores the big wide world. However, she learns there's no place like home and that one doesn't need a hero to save the day but one can do it themselves with just some effort. I loved the artwork. Cute, creepy creatures and wonderful shades of brown keep it atmospheric.

Bera the One-Headed Troll is a gardening troll who tends pumpkins for the king. One day she finds a human baby that is in danger. First the mer-trolls are after it, then the troll- witch. Bera does not know how to take care of the baby, what does it eat? She decides to take it back to the human village, but Cloote, the evil troll-witch is in pursuit. She wants to turn the baby into a monster to please the king. Along the way to find the village, she meets other creatures and has amazing adventures.

The story is cute and children would enjoy it very much. Each panel is illustrated in tones of brown which actually show what the troll world would be like. There is not a lot of text in the panels which would make it easy to read for younger children. The characters are not scary, even the most frightening ones such as the troll-witch or the three-headed monster troll.

This graphic novel is about friendship, cooperation, heroism and fighting for what you feel is right. This important message shows that you don't need to be a hero to do great things, but that doing good things makes you a hero. I would definitely recommend this graphic novel to elementary school libraries.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

children's graphic novel (2nd-5th grades) bera, the small troll (whose only responsibility would normally be taking care of the pumpkin harvest) sets out in search of a hero to take her human foundling baby to safety, but after many escapes and adventures becomes a hero herself. The goblins and monsters are strange but not too scary, and many of them, along with the animal creatures of the wild, are endearing. A terrific story that will enchant kids and adults alike.
