Lorna MacKinnon
Who is this Lorna MacKinnon and why should you care? Because she knows her stuff and everything she writes is about you, about your Sun sign and how you can understand all that you need to know about it. Know yourself as Socrates said, right? If you don't know yourself and what you want, how can you possibly be expected to get it? Your Sun sign is about eighty percent of your astrological profile. So if you can master your understanding of this and take the appropriate action to obtain your desires, only you know what you can achieve. Given this knowledge and how you apply it, you really can write the narrative of your own life. Work out your strengths and how to really maximise them. Understand your weaknesses and determine how to transform them into strengths. Make your perceived weakest link your strongest. Rewrite your past history and reshape your memories into things that are positive and empowering, so that everything really works out for you. Create a powerful, motivational self-fulfilling prophecy that encourages you to move forward, shaping events as opposed to being their slave, getting what you want instead of accepting what others think you should be content with. These books are about you, not about the author. The only 'writer's voice' you will hear is the one that informs, entertains and encourages you. It's now time to write your own script and act out the drama of your own life, not ones that you previously thought had been chosen for you. Predestination is passe and karma is callow, right? If you feel that this can spur you to think, strategize and act, then follow the blog, buy the books and take action. Become your best, who you really want to be. Nobody else will do it for you.

Why Love At First Sight Isn’t Always Right…
A person is most likely to act and appear like their Sun sign if their Ascendant (Rising) sign is the same as their Sun sign. In general, the Ascendant often describes half to two-thirds, of a person’s physical appearance, and the Sun sign, roughly one-third.
When people first meet you what they meet is your Ascendant or Rising sign, so for example if you’re a Leo and your ascendant sign is Capricorn you’ll look and act like a Capricorn until people get to know you better. Then Leo will make its presence felt and people will wonder how they could have been so wrong about you.
Imagine your Rising sign as being like a protective suit that you wear until you feel comfortable enough to shed your protective layer and let your Sun sign shine through. As the Ascendant sign shows an individual's first, natural reaction to new people and situations it is what you will see when meeting a person for the first time. When they meet you for the first time they will be meeting and greeting your Ascendant. This partly explains why someone can dislike a person or be indifferent to them initially yet fall in love when they get to know that person better.
When it comes to romance the Ascendant sign can throw you a curve ball. Just when you think you’ve spotted that dark, brooding Scorpio, and are getting to know him well enough for him to go back to his place, you suddenly find home décor that you’d associate with Sagittarius because that’s what you’ve got – a Sagittarius Sun sign man. You may be perfectly happy with that … who knew Sagittarian’s could be so enigmatic or you may be somewhat disappointed. It all depends on how much you really wanted a Scorpio and whether you like Sagittarians! If you wanted a Sagittarius that looks and sometimes acts like a Scorpio you’ll be in seventh heaven. If you wanted a Scorpio that looks like a Scorpio then it’s back to square one and a refinement of strategy.
The way to uncover his Sun sign isn’t to look at his appearance or how he acts towards you on first meeting. It’s to look at how he behaves when he’s totally relaxed. If he’s with close friends for example does he act like a Taurus or an Aquarian? When you see him with his guard down then you see his Sun sign!
If you fall for his Ascendant but can’t stand his Sun sign then your relationship is unlikely to go the distance. The same applies if he finds your (Ascendant sign) persona attractive but isn’t that keen on the real you (Sun sign). If that isn’t complicated enough there are other planets that come into play too.
But first the…
Beauty Parade - An Introduction To The Different Sun Signs
Aries – Character, Personality, Dating and Relationships.
Sun in Aries 21 March - 19 April
The first sign from the Zodiac, Aries is concerned with:
Initiation, new beginnings, pioneering
Action, daring, adventure
Challenges
Exploration, discovering
Competition, winning, coming first
Aggression,
Personal goals
Creativity
Leading
Heroism
Courage, openness, directness, honesty, nobility
Aries, the first sign the Zodiac, is the sign of new beginnings. The young Ram is a ground breaker in body and spirit, embracing new ideas and personal freedom with total enthusiasm! Aries can conquer the world unless they allow themselves to get thrown off course by their impatience. Two words sum up Aries energy, inspiration and aspiration. Aries craves liberty and demands to be exhilarated by new experiences. A static life is not for the Ram. S/he will quite happily shake things up just for a bit of drama and excitement.
Like the other Fire signs, Leo and Sagittarius, Aries are usually competitive, dominant and full of confidence for the future. My Aries husband is completely driven by a desire to create something new in his artistic endeavours. He is and always will be one of nature's 'early adopters'.
Aries is the most extrovert and impulsive, not to mention wilful of the fire signs. Ruled by the planet Mars (the Roman god of war), Aries is also the most restless fire sign - do not expect Aries to stick around for the long haul unless the long haul can be made very exciting in some way.
The sign of the Ram is the cardinal fire sign of the Zodiac. If I was asked to use one word to sum Aries up, that word would be heat. Prone to explosive outbursts of passion or rage, life with this determined childlike sign is never boring. Exhausting, sure, boring - never!
Aries living to their fullest potential are likely to be energetic, enthusiastic, upbeat and warm. Spontaneous and fiery, they can find themselves in trouble if they fail to 'look before leaping'. Aries not particularly detail oriented nor is the Ram a sign that plans ahead. Aries is highly likely to trip up is in the arena of office politics, partly due to being very self-absorbed. Also, Aries may be so busy looking forward that he or she fails to notice the backstabbing Machiavelli sneaking up behind!
As the initial sign (and initiator) of the Zodiac, Aries’ destiny is to initiate things and lead the way. S/he is a true pioneer. Consolidation and playing a support role isn’t for the Ram.

What You May Not Know About Aries
Aries is a fire sign that is ruled by Mars and often come across as being boisterous, exuberant and on occasion aggressive. An Aries will always know exactly what they want, who they want it from and is quick to leave if they don’t get it. Very enthusiastic by nature, they love to lead and seek thrills that will heighten their awareness and sense of self.
Aries people love to travel and cannot sit still for long. Life is about adventure and fitting in as much as possible. Because Mars is considered a masculine sign many female Aries may have more masculine traits and that can be confusing to those who expect women to be submissive, passive and silent.
Aries perceived aggressive nature is simply related to them getting as much as possible in the shortest amount of time. Fiercely independent, they need not be led and are always up for a challenge. They are devoted to those in their social circles and demand that others return the favour. This sign demands and gives complete loyalty.
Work
Aries are doers and won’t spend absorbent amounts of time thinking up solutions. They act now and think later. Because they are ruled by a masculine element, most are very successful and will be found in executive roles where they can exert their talents and lead the pack. They are pivotal to ventures because their work ethic is tireless and they are pioneers who love to get a new project off the ground or blaze a new trail. However, they will bore easily and need to be recognized for a job well done or they will move on quickly.
Friendships
Aries are great friends to have but they should be feared if you get on their bad side. They will gladly give you the shirt off their back as they are generous to a fault with those they care about but they can also be stubborn and expect a lot from those around them. Because they are so independent and active they can appear to be (or actually be) self-absorbed and very impatient. They are also prone to mood swings and don’t understand those who are too needy.
Sexuality
Aries take passion to the ultimate level and their libido is insatiable, especially if it involves new places and unplanned rendezvous. As with everything else in the Aries life, they know what they want and don’t want to wait for it. Their love, lust and drive are always in full gear and their partners need to keep up in and out of the bedroom. They will be prepared to teach a partner for a while, but are better learners and participators. Every emotion that an Aries has, good or bad will appear in the romance department so as lovers they aren’t for the faint of heart.
Rising Signs For Aries - How You See The World And How It Sees You - Ascendant or Rising Sign
Aries with Aries rising. You have leadership potential by the bucket load.
Aries with Taurus rising. You will have greater patience.
Aries with Gemini rising. You will really need to work at focusing on one thing at a time.
Aries with Cancer rising. You will be more sensitive than the average Aries.
Aries with Leo rising. Watch out for being just a bit too proud.
Aries with Virgo rising. You will have great powers of analysis and discrimination.
Aries with Libra rising. You will benefit from being able to see both sides of an argument before pressing ahead.
Aries with Scorpio rising. You will be more determined to overcome challenges.
Aries with Sagittarius rising. You could over-do the risk taking.
Aries with Capricorn rising. Material security will be very important to you.
Aries with Aquarius rising. Brings a humanitarian side to your 'me first', attitude.
Aries with Pisces rising. Makes you more sentimental, if a little impractical.
Moon Sign Influence On Aries Personality
With Moon in Aries there will be a vulnerable and idealistic side to your fiery exterior.
With Moon in Taurus you will be fairly relaxed emotionally. This combination may mitigate against being too impulsive.
With Moon in Gemini you will be better able to communicate from the heart but may be too headstrong.
With Moon in Cancer you will be less hard hitting and aggressive than the average Aries.
With Moon in Leo you will be determined to make everyone proud of your achievements.
With Moon in Virgo you may question yourself a little too much.
With Moon in Libra you will be less inclined to 'rush into battle'.
With Moon in Scorpio you will be more determined but more jealous.
With Moon in Sagittarius you will be even more enthusiastic about life.
With Moon in Capricorn you will become more persistent.
With Moon in Aquarius you will be less likely to fall in love at first sight.
With Moon in Pisces you will be more shy and retiring than the average Aries.
Aries Dating Deal-breakers
Aries are wild, imaginative and social creatures who love to be wherever the action is. Though most rely on the not so successful dinner and a movie
this typical and boring date will not score points with your Aries because it isn’t social enough, nor does it allow them to be action oriented. An Aries will quickly lose the will to live when trapped in a quiet restaurant preceded by being confined in the middle row in the middle of a movie theatre where the only action is happening on the screen. If you really want to choose a movie, be sure that it is one that is happening and maybe even a little controversial as your Aries will love a great debate over drinks after the movie.
It is not a good idea to allow your date to drag on for too long. If the Ram’s eyes are beginning to glaze over, then it’s time to bring the date to a close and head your separate ways.
It is not a sensible idea to pay for the date as this will set up the expectation that you will now be paying for every date!
Other dating no nos involve not making your Aries date the centre of your attention, not making an effort (including not dressing well), being dull company, being passive and/or too laid back.
Being too predictable will not get you very far either. Being reliable is essential but being predictable is not!
Aries Relationship Deal-breakers
Boredom and predictability kill any Aries relationship stone dead. The Ram will expect you to be faithful (he doesn’t like the ‘surprise’ of being cheated on) and to be where you say you are going to be (unreliability is a deal-breaker as far as the Ram is concerned), he expects you to spring the odd pleasant surprise on him. He also likes you to retain a degree of feminine mystique rather than being totally predictable.
Being too submissive can ruin your relationship with Aries. Where’s the fun in winning if your partner isn’t a worthy opponent, thinks the Ram. Jealousy is another relationship deal-breaker – only Aries is allowed to be jealous!
Aries Relationship Needs
Aries doesn't generally need hearts and flowers to give them a warm and fuzzy glow though they do like to ensure that their relationships do not lose any of their original romance. The Ram prefers his or her relationships to remain as thrilling and romantic as when the pair of you first met. Aries really does not want you to lose your original mystery, which means keeping your beauty regime private, avoiding looking anything other than at your best and generally acting like the romantic heroine of his fantasies. Unfair though it may seem; this is a man who does not want to see you slobbed out on the sofa eating pizza out of the box and drinking from a tin – that will kill his illusions about you stone dead. He places the person he loves on a pedestal you see and he really doesn’t want you to fall of it.
If you neglect to keep romance alive it is likely that your Aries will stray, which would be a shame as no other sign is as likely to be completely faithful as the Ram. He will remain faithful so long as the romance is still there and by romance I mean the traditional fairy tale romance kind of romance. The type of relationship that is that more of a friendship than a full on love affair does not do it for this sign.
He does expect to be seen as a romantic hero and will play this role to perfection if given the opportunity. He really does want to be seen as the all-conquering hero so resist the temptation to put him in his place by demanding that he empty the bins or do the washing up. To be quite frank he would prefer not to know that such household chores require doing! Too much nagging him to do mundane chores will infuriate him – how can he see you as a romantic heroine when you’ve suddenly morphed into a strident nag?
The Ram also needs to be with someone who is upbeat and optimistic – s/he has an incredibly low tolerance for negative people. That’s not to say that Aries won’t look after you are ill or feeling down but that they will expect you to handle any setbacks with stoicism and they will expect to see you making an effort to pull yourself together
as the Ram would see it.
Although Aries likes his lady to be like a romantic heroine he will not tolerate moodiness, neediness or clinginess. Neither will he tolerate possessiveness – as far as he is concerned he should be free to do what a man’s gotta do!
That includes being allowed to flirt on occasion as he likes to be the centre of attention. He needs a partner who can see the flirting for what it is – meaningless fun. In all likelihood it will be as this is not a man who is comfortable with multiple partners. That does not fit in with his idea of true romance which as far as he is concerned should last forever.
He will not however tolerate you flirting with anybody else; as far as he is concerned you are being unfaithful and that is most unlikely to be forgiven … EVER! Nor will the Ram tolerate what he would see as disloyalty. He expects his partner to back him up and agree with him on just about everything, so even if you think his opponent might be making a valid point you would be well advised to keep your opinion to yourself.
This is partly because Aries has a much more sensitive and easily bruised ego than one might initially think and his ego will get a regular bruising. This is due to the fact that the Ram is not the most politically savvy of men and will often try to mount a challenge too early. He is a natural rebel who is convinced that he is sharper, savvier and smarter than everybody else and he won’t hesitate to tell them so. This can lead to him getting told exactly where to get off by those in authority and it will be up to his partner to salve his battered ego. He really does need a partner who can rebuild his confidence when it takes a serious knock. This is where you will have to remind him of how great he is, remind him of his previous triumphs and make it quite clear that you do not agree with the idiot who dared to criticise him.
Aries people look for a partner who is strong and self-possessed with plenty of confidence. They look for someone who will challenge and take them to greater heights, both mental and physical. The person who can draw them out, shake them out of the boredom, cynicism and lethargy, which sometimes afflicts this sign in private, and make them better is a catch worth holding on to. It also helps if Aries' partner can handle the occasional, fiery argument and master the art of making up. Sexual adventurers are also very attractive to the Ram, whether it's acrobatics between the sheets or the sensual art of touching.
The Aries lover is passionate, adventurous and energetic, loves romance and revels in the art of the chase. Those who can stand the heat will be rewarded with a loyal companion who will take them to greater heights. Life with Aries is never boring, so get ready for the ride of a lifetime!
Aries is also very honest and straightforward so does not want or need a partner who plays head games. He will also not put up with the type of woman who belittles or emasculates him
Aries Incompatibility Ratings
Aries – Aries
How long this will last depends on how well you can co-operate together and how you handle the fallout from the explosive rows you are likely have. Making up might well be done in the bedroom (or anywhere else that takes your fancy) but things to get very problematic if one of you is the type to hold a grudge.
Continual fighting for supremacy can cause problems between you so you will need to be second in command on occasion. If one of you is always the boss the other will leave and find a less dominant partner.
Aries – Taurus
Potential sources of friction include the fact that the Taurus is unlikely to move sufficiently quickly for the Aries and that Taurus is not massively enthusiastic about the Aries’ need for regular change. Taurus may get frustrated with Aries’ refusal to see things through while Aries doesn’t always appreciate the Bull’s refusal to change course.
Add to this the fact that Aries tends to continually goad to get a rise out of people while the Bull is slow to anger but once they do a knockout blow will be delivered (with little if any warning); and you can see why this relationship is very hard to make work.
Aries - Gemini
Both of you move through life at a similar pace, enjoy verbal sparring and are happy with change. The biggest threat to this relationship is Aries jealousy when it comes to Gemini’s flirting and Aries inability to accept Gemini’s infidelities.
Aries – Cancer
Aries can hurt Cancer without meaning to as Aries can be somewhat brutal in their style of communication. The main flash points however are likely to occur if the Ram forgets that Cancer (a fellow cardinal sign) expects to lead. The naïve Ram may think that they have a compliant partner – boy, are they in for a big surprise.
Cancer’s need to stay at home rather than going out socialising can also irk the Aries as can Cancerian clinginess.
Aries – Leo
Two leaders with massive egos – do you take it in turns to lead or spend a large part of your time fighting? This relationship can work well provided that you take it in turns to lead rather than engaging in continual games of one-upmanship.
Aries – Virgo
Aries hates being challenged, nit-picked and micromanaged. Virgo gets frustrated with someone who isn’t open to being improved!
Aries – Libra
Aries is probably not romantic enough for the Libran. The Aries can also come across as being too self-centred and too self-absorbed for the Libran.
As Aries is a straight-talker they may find the Libran a little obtuse in their communications (Libra would call it being non-confrontational) whereas Libra may find Aries’ directness (often at high volume) somewhat uncouth.
Aries – Scorpio
Jealousy is the most likely failure point here unless Aries suddenly works out that Scorpio is happy to lose the odd battle in order to win the war.
Aries – Sagittarius
A perfect match so long as Aries doesn’t work out that Sagittarius is dodging Aries’ controlling behaviour and so long as the tactless Archer doesn’t hit one of Aries’ may sensitive spots!
Aries – Capricorn
Works well so long as Aries doesn’t freeload too often!
Aries – Aquarius
The most self-centred sign in the zodiac (Aries) meets the zodiac’s all-inclusive humanitarian (Aquarius; what could possibly go wrong??
Aries jealousy, expectations of romance and fidelity can also derail this relationship.
