About this ebook
In today’s fast-paced world, the time that was once allocated for daily home-cooked meals and sit down family dinners has slowed drifted out of the grasp of many of us. As a result, we have been compelled to nourish our bodies with pre-packaged, processed, add water and heat foods that have been loaded with all sorts of things that can be damaging to our health.
While we may find that we’re eating meals, feeling satisfied, and gaining a bit of energy, we are a nation that has been found to be undernourished. We are eating plenty but of the wrong foods. While many of us understand that freshness is the key, we find that its perishable qualities make us reluctant to buy them like we should. We bring home a bunch of fresh veggies only to see them begin to waste away before we can finish them.
This is one way that Mason Jar Meals can come in and save the day (or the dollar) from being wasted. Not only do the help to keep the meals fresh for longer, they help us to get those healthier food choices. The recipes listed in this book are relatively easy to prepare, allow us to store the food for longer periods of time while still keeping them fresh, and they are portable. We can even prepare a whole week's worth of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners at the same time and really know what we’re eating, and it makes eating much more fun and interesting. It’s a win for everyone in the family!
Mason Jar Meals is a great way to put a new twist on an old tradition. Learning how to create these edible works of art can be fun for the whole family. Once you learn how to layer these beautiful dishes and how to preserve their freshness for a longer period of time, premade meals will no longer have to be a game of Russian Roulette, never knowing what you’re getting or how it will harm you.

Mason Jar Meals - Jemma Porter
Introduction
It wasn’t that long ago that the only place you found Mason Jars was in your grandmother’s cupboard. They were usually filled with delicious jams and jellies or other preserved foods she had worked tirelessly to stock up on for you to enjoy. When the jars were finally emptied of their contents they were washed and put away until the next spring for the next year’s canning season. It is a tradition that has been in many families for generations.
Today, however, new life has been breathed into the Mason Jar heritage. Each day more and more households have a few of these jars in their fridge for easy access. The old fashioned jars are still the same but the contents have changed. Now, instead of those delicious jams and jellies (you can still have them if you want) they can contain all sorts of meals and food choices.
Why the switch? The answer is simple. People today are busy – they don’t have time to painstakingly prepare every single meal. They are also convenient. Rather than rushing down to the fast food place to get an unhealthy choice for your lunch break, you can prepare a healthy yet nutritious meal and carry it wherever you go. This saves lots of anxiety and worry about the poor food choices that are available in so many places. It puts you back in control of what you want to eat.
The fact is that we live in a junk food world and the trend toward less desirable foods is continuing to grow. In most cases, it’s not because we prefer it but simply because it’s the only convenient options we have before us. Only those who take the needed steps to break out of our unhealthy routine and are willing to try something new will be able to get around this junk food craze. When we live in a world where fast food restaurants outnumber healthy by a ratio of four to one, it is easy to see that we’re swimming upstream against the tide. Learning how to take back that control could make all the difference.
