Wow, what a downer ending by Graham Masterton. I thought that Brian Keene did a great job at creating such downer endings, and he's still better at it, but Tengu really, as the old cliche says, takes the cake here. It's still an amazing story, but with some minor characterization issues. A group of Japanese terrorists are recreating an old war experiment that allows people to be possessed by demons in an effort to make sure America remembers Hiroshima. Meanwhile, their agents are in the dark on what they plan, causing them to research their benefactor's backgrounds.
