Why we need icebreakers for online courses?
Very great change starts from very small conversations, held among people who care.

Effective icebreakers are often simple, fun and creative. Having icebreakers at the beginning of an online course is an effective strategy to help students to get on-board into an online community of learners. It plays an essential role in an online course–where absence of the face-to-face interactions is typical. Icebreakers facilitate online learners to initiate social interchanges and conversations, develop a sense of belonging in a learning environment by fostering openness and bonding experiences. Through social learning, learners are encouraged to interact and collaborate in your online course. It is a good practice for online instructors to incorporate icebreakers in the design of an online course.
This book is a culmination of our experiences conducting educators’ workshops on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). As Master trainers and MOOC managers, we are always on the lookout for new, practical ways to make online courses attractive and interesting to learners.
