About this ebook
Do you wonder why you might not be trusted more by peers or those in authority over you? Why so many seemingly restrictions are placed upon you, or why you're not seeing as many opportunities in your life that you'd like?
Better yet are people critical of you?
Ask yourself: Do you find yourself blaming others? Is your first reaction to any given situation to find fault? Do you believe other people simply don't understand, appreciate or value you (as they should)?
There's a reason for this. You may lack a solid understanding of what it is to be responsible, which is the building block to a remarkable character.
…not to mention a better life.
We're here to help.

FORWARD
Come back with your shield, or on it.
You've heard that phrase before, right?
That was the cry of the mothers and wives of Sparta. Come back with your shield, or on it.
Because a man who didn't have a shield had dropped it, and he was shamed. Now a man could lose anything else, including his life, but not his shield.
Why?
Because his shield was there for the protection of the unit. In the phalanx (the formation used by the Greeks at that time) your shield protected your left side and the man to your left. You were responsible for his protection. Failure to do so would not only lose the life of the person next to you but weaken the phalanx as a whole.
The responsibility an individual had was the life of the unit. A Spartan man couldn't lose his temper in battle, suffer from rage, or lose his focus and risk the lives of his phalanx.
I know that's an extreme example, however, I want you to see the level of responsibility each member had to have in order to function as a whole.
One of the most defining characteristics of being an adult is responsibility. Learning to be responsible for your own actions, thoughts, and who you are is vital for growth and even happiness.
While responsibility is a burden at times, it strengthens you underneath it. Eventually, things that were difficult, become easy, they become habit.
Responsibility is your freeway to owning yourself. It establishes you as a dependable adult. Which in turn opens up a fountain of opportunities that would never have been there for you otherwise.
