    Welcome to the world of coaching girls’ basketball at the high school level. It is a fulfilling experience that will bring you both highs and lows, and will test your patience and fortitude. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to impact some of the greatest young athletes around. There is a great deal that goes into coaching a girls’ basketball team. You might be able to guess some of the most important teaching elements to the game of basketball, but there are many other things to learn that will help you to be a successful coach and to have a successful team.

    The game of basketball may be important to you in ways that are different from other coaches, based on your personal experience and the impact the game has had on you. In the words of Michael Jordan , one of the greatest basketball players of all-time: The game of basketball has been everything to me. My place of refuge, [the] place I’ve always gone where I needed comfort and peace. It’s been the site of intense feelings of joy and satisfaction. It’s a relationship that has evolved over time, given me the greatest respect and love for the game. Understand that your players all have different reasons for playing the game of basketball, and the challenge is to align your team’s view with a vision of how victorious you all could be, both on and off the court.
