Dave sees things no one else can and streamlines the feedback so even a rookie like me can understand. I learned many life lessons along with my golf instruction.

Gale May (late bloomer and golf-crazy)

After playing left-handed for ten years, I had to give up golf two years ago because it was too painful for my body. I have known Dave for several years and casually mentioned over coffee, that I wanted to start playing again-but not as a leftie. I am now enjoying the game more than ever with no braces or handfuls of painkillers. Great job Dave!

    INTRODUCTION

Do you invest in regular instruction and practice diligently but only see marginal improvement? How often do you start a new season reviewing the faulty swing mechanics that were exorcised last Fall?

This book will help you break through the proverbial glass ceiling. Understanding your fundamental (often unconscious) beliefs about the game is the key to unlocking your natural ability.

Have you ever wondered what happens to your swing during the ten-minute walk from the practice range to the first tee? Are you familiar with the maxim that golf is ninety percent mental? What the heck does that even mean?

The biggest roadblock to improvement isn't faulty technique; A knowledge of basic swing mechanics is a prerequisite but the secret to constant improvement.is learning how to stop beating yourself up.

    Sounds simple enough, doesn’t it?

Do you spend more effort reviewing your mistakes or locking in the feeling of your best shots? If your game hovers around the same score year after year, then you know the answer.

Technical perfection is the foundation of traditional instruction; an admirable but unrealistic goal for the once-a-week golfer. Do you only take lessons to illuminate your mistakes? A common misconception is believing that constantly reviewing faulty swing mechanics will eliminate them.

Have you ever hit a perfect shot? How would you define perfection?

Every golfer can relate to the indescribable feeling of hitting the sweetspot. Developing the recipe to revive those shots is the drug that keeps us coming back. The first step is creating that effortless feeling.

You have the ability-all you need is the recipe.

Your unconscious beliefs are the ticket to unlocking the ability that lies beyond swing mechanics. The worlds’ best players understand these beliefs must be consistently reinforced. This is the missing link that is often overlooked in traditional instruction.

My goal is to help you understand the power of beliefs.

This book is a transcript of seven conversations with a student named John (yes, that’s his real name).

My previous acquaintance with John was simply a casual "how’s it going?" whenever I passed him on the practice range every Sunday morning at 8:30. Invariably, he was still hitting balls when I returned four hours later after my last lesson.

Our first meeting was purely accidental.

I devoted my Sunday mornings to a casual breakfast at the golf club, where I could review the previous week's lesson notes in the quiet confines of a secluded corner booth overlooking the practice range.

I settled into my regular window seat, coffee in hand, and gazed absent-mindedly at golfers carrying two jumbo-sized buckets of balls. I had the impression that these golfers believed the secret would only reveal itself after countless hours of practice.

My reverie was shattered by a rush of wind as the double doors flung open and John stormed in!

Judging from his demeanor, I imagined that his clubs were destined to be auctioned off to the highest bidder on Ebay within the hour. I waved John over and motioned him to pull up a chair.

You look like you’re ready to quit…

John: (plunking down in the overstuffed, burgundy club chair) I can’t believe it! I just lost two dollars to an old friend who hasn’t picked up the clubs in four years. He just steps up and smacks the ball. No idea that his left elbow bends like a pretzel, his feet dance around like he's on hot coals and he falls backwards on every Drive. He doesn’t give a damn about form! I can just imagine what the guys will think when we get together next week.

    Two bucks isn’t that much…

John: "It’s not the money. I play every Sunday and practice
