Why you need financial independence?
On average, women outlive men by seven years. When married men die, the women are left with the responsibility of looking after children. With little or no financial backbone, these women undergo untold miseries.
Secondly, the poor conditions of work for women in the service and limited or lack of skills to enter the main job market leaves women at the bottom of the economic ladder.
Thirdly, large differences in job opportunities between rural and urban areas (most women without skills live in the rural areas) affect the economic position of many families. Besides, even when skills are available, many employers are not keen to employ women in male-dominated fields. Even when they do this, women get only about 75% of what their male counterparts get.
You can avoid abusive relationships and this will give you a voting power in your relationship.
“We thank God for you Frank; this book took me from the worst to the best person I could ever be and I can never thank you enough.”

Foreword
This book is dedicated to the girl-child and women who, through some social stereotypes, are lagging behind, disadvantaged and vulnerable. Financial independence is what everyone is seeking to achieve, but the question is how? This blueprint will take you through the subject in a succinct manner and point out some of the pitfalls and traps to avoid. However, the responsibility remains with you to take the first step – do not just talk about it; do it…. You can… make the bold decision. What you need is dedication, discipline and determination. Remember, life is a journey; there are opportunities, risks, challenges and good times, so invest wisely. Network with others, especially those people who have a positive attitude towards life; some of them will mentor you. Be courageous in your deeds to be a ‘woman whom a man needs, not a woman who needs a man…’ Source: Unknown. I invite you to take the journey to financial freedom.
Introduction
For change to be effected, it requires a revolutionary turnabout from present dogmatic societal thinking to something that could help you attain your dream. Personally, in as far as financial independence is concerned, I think we are on the cusp of social revolution reality. The discovery of the need for personal growth with asset acquisition becoming central to the cause has become more pronounced than ever before. It is comforting to realise that men and women alike are faced with the same problems of financial inadequacies in life, such that they tend to literally survive instead of living their lives. In short, they endure lives that they do not want instead of living lives they want; they literally refuse to create lives they want. This book, although it was primarily written for women, can be used by anyone who wishes to attain financial independence. As for single women, I wish to redefine singleness not based on being unmarried; single women include those who are widowed, unmarried, separated or divorced or those who are heads of households. Now, since a woman can be single at any age, it is important to consider the possibility of investment to achieve financial independence.
Maybe you were taught to let men manage money when you were growing up, or that money isn’t feminine or ladylike and that it is more masculine. Well, you were taught wrong. Banish those thoughts! Remember that money is just a tool to help you enjoy life – it does not have to be something to avoid, but something to embrace, which you can acquire legitimately. There is no difference between financial independence for men and women. Like I intimated, money is neither masculine nor feminine; it is just money. It is not the root cause of all evil; money is power, but a lack of it could be the root cause of all evil. It is important, therefore, that you learn how to acquire it, accumulate it, invest it, manage it and even spend it properly. Furthermore, you must learn how to build your wealth by implementing systematic ways that could increase your financial revenue.
There is no doubt, as it is explained over and over that human minds differ little in their innate qualities and that it is the upbringing and education that explain the differences among us. Having said that, software is everything; hardware is identical and, thus, meaningless. The road to financial independence, to the greatest extent, lies through desire and improved access to financial education. It is unfortunate that much information about money that has the potential to enhance an individual’s prospects for success is buried within a demonisation of misunderstanding. This very mythical concept is what we need to get rid of to be liberated.
The question is: why this book, especially on women and finances? In many seminars and workshops I have conducted over the years, I have realised that there is a section of society that can change the world, yet is afraid to do so. This is probably because they have lived under an oppressive system for a long time. Women are such a section that could turn things around if given enough ammunition to do so. When women become financially empowered, society undergoes a steady transformation. Malcolm X once said, If you are in a country that is progressive, the woman is progressive. If you are in a country that reflects the consciousness toward the importance of education, it’s because the woman is aware of the importance of education. But in every backward country you will find the women are backward, and in every country where education is not stressed it is because the women do not have education.
This was a powerful statement from the human rights activist and it is the basis and a litmus paper that would help us gauge our progress as a nation. Everything starts with a woman and there is no denying that fact regardless of their present state and position. It is comforting to note that there is a shift that is happening as more women are slowly beginning to take their rightful place in the corporate world. However, with limited business skills compounded with other factors, the battle for financial independence is far from over, especially in the developing world.
It is well understood that money and its acquisition are not taught in school. Schools are concerned with scholastic issues, not monetary issues, and, as such, very little is known about how to make money. However, life has many mentors and lessons on money. As people interact with one another, they tend to learn more about money than schools could ever attempt to teach. No wonder not all who are educated have wealth in life. Money and wealth are only acquired by smart people; people who have systems in place to attract it. These are effective people, because they understand the importance of systems and processes that make them work smartly.
As you read every chapter of this book, you will find systems, processes and attributes that have worked for others. People who have been in your situation have used these tried and tested tools to shift their lives. People who have literally refused to endure a moneyless life, but who have instead chosen to live a life full of it. You are not an exception; you can shift your destiny and live like the queen you were meant to be. Learn about money and how you can use it to make your life worth living. Remember that everything you knew about money was passed down to you, but you can change that, because most of it was based on sheer ignorance. Ninety percent of it was negative where money was perceived to be devilish.
As we were growing up, we were told a lot of negatives about money, which eventually shaped our mindset on money. These statements came from people who loved us and cared for us, yet destroyed the very foundation of what they were trying to build in our lives. They did that in the name of love, but did not realise that they were destroying us and shaping our perception toward money. Statements like: do you think money grows on trees? Money is evil and is the root cause of all evil or you should be a crook to have wealth in life. Furthermore, we were led to believe that saving and other forms of investment are a reserve for the elite in society and not for common folks in the ghettos. This negative attitude toward money destroyed every iota of courage and dream to look for money as we grew up. In the end, every rich person, especially women, were thought to have acquired their wealth dubiously.
They would tell you that money is not feminine, but you should know that it is not masculine either. Money is just a tool like any other talents and whoever makes good use of it benefits from it. I want to let you in on one secret about life and let me use this illustration to make my point. You know the difference between an eagle and a chicken is evident: though both are birds and have wings, eagles fly and chickens do not. Fortunately, you share the same fate as the eagle. You are destined to soar freely high up in the sky above all the birds, and to be carried by the wind and feared by those below, which includes the chicken. Even though you are a woman, you can make things happen even amid men, because you are smart. No one can stop you from becoming a big shot. Ayn Rand said: The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.
Do not let prejudice and negative attacks prevent you from becoming your own person. Leave the crowd and soar above troubles and familiar storms. Use these storms to lift yourself up; remember you are like an eagle, and no other bird flies as high as the eagle. You are destined to fly above the rest.
I have learnt over the years to walk away from any situation that does not help me to go up. Even when it comes to choosing my friends, I am more careful; I only choose my friends based on my destiny. I want you to know that any situation that depresses you has the potential to kill your confidence and prevent you from discovering what you are worth. You might have been feeling very low for a long time; the reason is that you have been wallowing for too long in a situation that you do not want. You have surrounded yourself with people who would always criticise you without offering an alternative solution. You are in that situation and have become accustomed to it. However, the fact that you do not want it does not mean that it will automatically leave your life. If you do not want a situation that has stalled your progress in business or life in general, walk away from it. Let me further add that, if you have a job that bores you, or a relationship that is not working no matter how much you try to work it out, simply quit it. Do
