About this ebook

Through texts and messages, the mega-bestselling, beloved Internet Girls series followed the ups and downs of school for three very different, very close friends. Now it’s freshman year of college for the winsome threesome, and *everything* is different. For one, the best friends are facing their first semester apart. Way, way apart. Maddie’s in California, Zoe’s in Ohio, and Angela’s back in Georgia. And it’s not just the girls who are separated. Zoe’s worried that Doug wants to break up now that they’re at different schools, and Maddie’s boyfriend, Ian, is on the other side of the country. In the face of change and diverging paths, Maddie’s got a plan to keep the friends close, and it involves embracing the present, making memories, and . . . roller derby! Using of-the-moment technology, Lauren Myracle brings her groundbreaking series into the brave new virtual world of texting and tweets.

STARRED REVIEW
"This honest, nuanced, accessible, and credible account provides teen girls with an authentic and skillfully told description of college life. The story, which can stand independently from the rest of the Internet Girls series, offers readers realistic, engaging, and provocative perspectives on scary first semesters away from home and sage advice about drinking, partying, and shutting down socially, all without ever leaving the perfectly crafted text-message flow.

I was so excited to read this, since there is so much hype and so many great reviews about all the other books in the series.

I think the story was fine. But I found it hard to read.

Yes, I'm old. But I do text a lot. And I mean a lot a lot. However, apparently I'm so old I type full words and get lost in the many abbreviations. So I found this book hard to read, which made it very difficult for me to get absorbed into the story line.

I know younger people (maybe an age where you don't need reading glasses yet) will love this book as much as the other 3, and the hype will continue. Don't let my experience with the book deter you from buying it.

This is a story about Zoe, Maddie and Angela, who are now in college. (Lauren Myracle wrote a number of earlier novels about them.) They're each going to a different school, and the adjustment is difficult for them in different ways. Zoe is still attached to her high school boyfriend, but he seems to be losing interest in her. Maddie is pretending to have a great time, but the truth may be different. And Angela is dealing with the complicated world of sororities and fraternities at a Southern state school.

Not real impressed with this book. Three friends go to three different colleges and we simply read their texts to each other. One seems to be really happy but is really lying, one is crushed when her boyfriend breaks up with her, and the third rushes for a sorority but backs out when she sees some pretty disturbing treatment towards the young women in the sorority. My issue is that the second two suffer for a little while then persevere in major ways. The whole thing sounded like an adult trying to inspire teens to make the right decisions, and the way it all worked out in the end was just over the top.

I enjoyed this book. I was a little apprehensive when I saw the way the book was written. Surprisely though, it worked and made it a fast and enjoyable read.

I absolutely loved "yolo"; I have been a huge fan of The Internet Girls for years, and they have always felt like people that I know - living, breathing girls that I could easily find in my contacts or instant message on (the now aged) AIM. The voices of Maddie, Angela and Zoe are still distinct and recognizable in "yolo". I think that there is a seamless transition into the world of the new book, like allusions to Twitter, Tumblr, and MapMyRun (my favorite!). At no point did the plot feel forced. The style and flow of the (probably iMessage) conversations were extremely believable because of the hectic college lifestyle of all three girls. I wish it was a bit longer, I wish we had more insight on how Maddie really felt while fabricating stories of her school experience, I wish we could dig deeper into Zoe's exploration of sexuality and Angela's (hopefully long-term) relationship with Reid. This, however, is me just wanting to spend more time with the girls who I truly consider my own literary friends. I'm in college now, just finishing my first semester, so it is truly a pleasure to catch up with the girls; I imagine them continuing to thrive and handle situations as one unit all throughout the rest of their college careers. "yolo" is a great read, it comes with an awesome playlist that I will definitely check out, and it is a great gift to a reader like me who has always enjoyed the series and is pleased that Lauren Myracle decided to revisit their lives in a brief, but effective, way.
