Special Thanks
To My Parents, from whom I inherited a love of reading and writing and by whom I have always been encouraged to reach for the stars,
To My Husband, whose constant love for me makes me want to be a better woman, a better mom, and a better servant of My King;
To My Girls, from whom many life lessons have been learned and explored;
And especially,
To My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who decided to use a simple vessel to pour His love through to all who wish to partake.
Enjoy…
DAY 1
CHOICES
Choices. From the moment the alarm cracks the silence, choices resound. Do I hit snooze once more or get out of bed?
Choices. As your feet touch the hard, uninviting floor, decisions abound. Red or blue shirt?
Cereal or breakfast waffle?
Radio or CD?
Whether great or small, insignificant or life-changing, choices face you in a variety of ways. In extreme measures and in moves made out of habit. Many of these choices will never change history. They won’t make the paper or be announced publicly. They may not address the issues of the day, but they will affect your future. Because with each choice comes the distinct opportunity to be obedient.
Do I slow for the yellow light or race through the red?
Do I wear my seatbelt or remain most comfortable without the strap at my chest?
Do I heed the urgency of the Spirit to witness to this one or do I remain silent?
Choices. History was no different. Abraham faced a choice. To remain on the porch, bags packed, wondering which direction to take or to step out headlong into the unknown. He could have stayed where he was. His home was quite comfortable. No hard ground. No bugs swarming around his head at night. No flat bread for breakfast. But he decided to trust the voice of God. Go.
Where?
I’ll show you when you get there.
Choices. Judas had a choice. He was part of the twelve yet he didn’t quite fit in. He walked the same path yet his detour was irreversible. The thirty pieces of silver were so inviting yet weighed so heavily at his belt. Can I ever be forgiven? Never.
His final choice: Death.
Choices. Jesus had a choice. But He was the Son of God, born with a death sentence on His head,
you may say. True. But in his humanity, glory removed, he was Jesus – on this earth – with a choice.
A choice to heal. A choice to feel compassion. A choice to grant mercy and forgiveness. A choice to die.
Results. They always follow choices. Good or bad. Insignificant or life-changing. Your choices result in your future.
The result of Jesus? Life. Everlasting. As good as it gets. More abundant. Victorious.
Make the choice.
Quiet Times
Scripture: I set before you life and death…Now choose life.
(Deuteronomy 30:19)
Application: Every decision is based on a belief, even if that belief is, in itself, a deception. You can believe the outcome is more important than the means of getting there and make detrimental decisions. Or you can believe that the Spirit in you is stronger than any temptation, any material gain, or any worldly wisdom. Think about the choices you make today and determine not to follow your own heart but the heart of God.
DAY 2
TOMORROW
Throughout all of history, throughout all the spans of time, and forever into eternity there abides one moment, one word that will never become reality.
It evades us all as our best laid plans remain dormant at its feet. Our visions and dreams never coming into existence because of its false hope. Our resolutions never attained. Our discipline fallen short.
What escapes the biggest and the best of us, the young and old alike, is tomorrow. At the moment we believe tomorrow has arrived, it is called today and tomorrow remains forever unattainable.
Why do we lie our hopes at its doorstep? Why do we constantly wait for the one thing better which never comes? Why do we excitedly anticipate its arrival when all too soon our vision is blurred to the fact that it has eluded us once again?
Because of its falsehood, Jesus abhorred tomorrow. He told us to seek salvation while it is called today because He knew we would never come face to face with this enemy of discipline.
Tomorrow. The one who remains so elusive continually calls us to obey.
It can wait.
You’re too tired.
There’s always next time.
But the boy on the bike who was hit by a car will never get his turn. The girl whose body was eaten by disease won’t hear her mother’s next words. The elderly man who gently drifts into the next dimension will not get a second chance.
Tomorrow is an enemy that lies in wait to devour the best of intentions. It
