Success from the barrio
My people, straight from the barrio
if we try harder and smarter to improve
there’s nothing we can’t achieve
we have traveled a long way
but there’s still a long way to go
if you ask me we can contribute more to the world
if we receive an education
and live a clean life
most people think because
you are an underprivileged child
from the barrio
you should grow up to be in line
to become a welfare parasite
then get in line of prostitution
follow that up in the next line of inmates
why should we live up to society’s low expectations for my brown people
so you can think we got a low I.Q.
times are changing and
we need to be ready for the change
we need to seize the moment
and show the world what we are capable of having
a high position with the right experience
all the credentials required
don’t forget to bring your ID
and social security card
because there are still some people out there
who think we are not citizens of this country
where we were born
that our people helped
build with their brown hands
brown backs
not everyone crossed the border
the border crosses some of us to… so you know
please stop all the attacks
don’t forget people Straight from the Barrio
will always be under the microscope
everything we do or say accomplished or failed
will get scrutinized today we are
America’s most wanted or most unwanted
tomorrow we will be America’s most in demand
so I say STAND UP!
and get in line for the degree
that you have earned
STAND UP! and get in line for the career
of your choice in the Corporate America
here are the keys to your new business
and force out all the stereotypes
preconceived notions people may have
of people Straight from the Barrio to us
our neighborhoods have been forgotten for too long
we need more brown politicians who can relate
and can bring the right attention to the barrio
we need someone to set you straight
with some straight thinking
straight walking
straight clear as water ideas for the truth
an underprivileged background
now a successful brown person
will bring improvement to the inner city brown kids
because we will not forget where we came from
and we will show the young RAZA the road to success
why not a person who lived underprivileged
and still managed to become successful
George Lopez for president
Sandra Cisneros for Vice President
Sonia Sotomayor for Supreme Court judge
Oscar de la Hoya for secretary of state
Now put yourself in the equation
Improve your situation
everybody knows Latina women are the most
beautiful creatures God ever created
but you know what is more beautiful…
successful Latina women
the total package
they can do it all and it’s time to inform
and educate the world
then there will finally be some respect
among us the brown people
because our children straight from the barrio
will have somebody to look up to
a successful brown scientist
an engineer a successful brown businessman entrepreneur
this time the truth will go honest
the saying all men are created equal
will not only be heard but seen for the first time
because there is an opportunity
out there waiting for everyone
but it won’t be there forever… The time is NOW
we will go from the dirt roads of the barrio
to the streets of corporate
