    Christmas Prayers - Judith Hannemann

    Advents

    Blessed Lord Jesus,

    Two Advents approach.

One Advent on a liturgical calendar. Three purple and one rose candle in a wreath of greens.

Scripture readings; purple vestments and altar hangings.

    Anticipation in the church.

The other Advent a preparation spoken by You in parable.

Ten bridesmaids drowsing in denial. Unexpected arrival of the groom.

Mercifully fill our hearts with the oil of Your Holy Spirit that our lamps might be in readiness to greet

    Your Second Coming.

In Your unending goodness, keep us as alert to the eternal Advent as we are to the liturgical Advent.

Ignite our faith to be in readiness and rejoicing for both Advents.

Astonish us with the grace to be a people as prepared for the Babe as for the Bridegroom

    Thank You, Lord.

    Amen.

    Matt. 25:1-13(RSV)

    Waiting

    Heavenly Father,

Mercifully expand Your grace to us in our waiting for the appearance of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.

We have great need of Your divine help if we are to be a people purified for Christ
